by Manvi T. Content writer

The whole world is digitizing every part of their business operations, which has pushed the highest demand for IT and computer science professionals. Even as a layman, you cannot avoid learning some computer science skills as in every task today you need to operate the computer technology gadgets and appliances.

Therefore, it is professionally safe and wise to opt for a computer science education after your class 12th completion. Earlier, there were limited options to choose in the engineering field, but now, with the high demand and evolving information technology and innovations, computer science engineering itself has many options to graduate in.

Computer science engineering is itself an academic programme which integrates both the engineering and science aspect of computer technology. You must understand that the course as a whole contains a plethora of sub-courses or topics like computation, programming languages, algorithms, web development, computer hardware and software, program design, and much more.

Also, with the advent of online learning and Covid-19 pandemic, the medium of instruction and learning computer science skills has become feasible and easy to learn from any location or at any time. You can opt for various computer science courses with varying levels of difficulty and time duration according to your understanding and budget.

1. B.Tech/ B.E. in Computer Science

This course is the most sought computer science course by the 12th class pass outs. It is a 4-years undergraduate program, which provides basic knowledge and skills of every aspect of computer hardware and software technologies, including learning different programming languages and their applications for the software development. With this course you can explore all the avenues of career in the computer science engineering field.

2. B.Tech/ B.E. in Information Technology

This is also a 4-year undergraduate program, but differs with the computer science degree as an IT bachelor's degree teaches students the essentials of networking concepts, security infrastructure practices, data administration, and application development. With this course you can explore careers in IT networking and cyber security, etc.

3. B.Tech + M.Tech (Integrated)

The benefit of this course is you can achieve both the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the duration of 5 years, rather than doing them individually for 6 years. Also, you get better job opportunities for higher level positions after completing this course, as you gain more experience and knowledge than the undergraduate students.

4. Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)

BCA is also an undergraduate program but its duration is of 3 years and it doesn’t offer you an engineering degree. From the point of view of job opportunities, this course is more application oriented which provides good work opportunities, and you can also opt for the MCA program for further studies.

5. B.Sc. in Computer Science

This is another 3-year undergraduate computer science program, which focuses more on the theoretical and conceptual aspects of computer science, rather than practical aspects you learn in BCA. This course is lucrative for both good job prospects and making a career in academic research or teaching profession with scope of M.Sc. and PhD degrees further.

6. BCA + MCA (Integrated)

This integrated computer science course can be of 4-5 years, depending on the institution offering the same. It is useful for getting good IT job opportunities, as you get both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with exposure to computer science applications.

7. BCA in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

With the increasing demand of AI and ML, this 3 year undergraduate program is a lucrative career option for 12th class pass out students. This is a specific course offering career opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning avenues like data scientist, machine learning engineer, software developer, robotics, AI research scientist, etc.

8. BCA in Cyber Security

This is another specific course focused on the security aspect of computer science assets of the companies. It is a 3-4 year undergraduate program which can be applied after clearing an entrance exam for the respective institution offering the course, and you get to explore careers like cyber security analysis, information security analysis, ethical hacking, network security engineering, etc.

9. Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering

The diploma course in computer science engineering is a 3-year course after class 12th, which focuses on industry-oriented topics like programming languages - C, C++, Java, etc., so you are prepared for the good job opportunities.

10. B.Tech/ B.Sc./ BCA in Data Science

This is a 3-4 year undergraduate program which is newly introduced by some reputed institutions, which focuses on computer science concepts related to performing big data analytics and data science engineering.

Final Thoughts

You can pursue the above courses of computer science engineering after completing class 12th through both online and offline mode. Also, you must consider the fee of the course with the job prospects, and you need to select the course which aligns with your future goals and present career interests.
