This island country is a melting pot of cultures and that is reelected on their food spread. Their breakfast exudes the oceanic vibe and lively spirit, much like their people. So, what constitutes a typical Australian breakfast? That’s what you’re about to find out in the article!

Vegemite on Toast

Australian breakfast is incomplete without a plate of Vegemite. However, if you live outside Australia, you might not have heard of it. Founded back in 1922, this is a brown savoury spread made from leftover yeast extract. It isn’t as sweet as its near cousin, Marmite, but has a slight umami flavour to it. It can be eaten as a light snack and paired with jam and can be found in a breakfast café near your location.

Weet Bix

Even if you don’t know where Australia is, know that Vegemite and Weet Bix is a staple breakfast for the Aussies. It is an extremely popular crunch snack made from whole-grain wheat cereal, resembling a ‘hay brick’. This breakfast is light and versatile. Make a crunchy bite, dip in the milk or pair with jam or marmalade, you name it! You can also customise this meal by adding slices of fruits and custard.

Avocado on Toast

A classic Australian breakfast, this dish can be enjoyed both by the young and the old. Here, the avocado is either smashed or finely chopped and spread on a buttered toast. It is usually topped with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. You can liven up the dish with a siding of poached eggs. Order it at any café offering breakfast near your location. To make it more Australian, some even love spreading feta cheese on it and top it with Vegemite!

So, are you planning to gorge on some lip-smacking Australian breakfast staples today? You can also try some of the few honourable mentions, like sweetcorn fritters, banana bread, fresh toast, and Milo.
