What Causes Your Lights To Flicker?

by Nathan Daniel Content Creator

Most of us do not pay attention to flickering lights, do we? However, little do we know that ignoring flickering lights could mean something significant. While some issues, such as a loose connection, are simple to fix, others, such as a potentially severe electrical problem, require immediate attention.

In this article, we will discuss major causes of flickering light so you do not ignore them next time you see one -

#1 Loose Bulb

This is one of the most common and minor causes of flickering light. Flickering is brought on by a light bulb's inconsistent power supply when it is loose in the socket.

Cut the light off. Before touching the bulb, allow it to cool. Verify that the light bulb is securely screwed in and that it is the appropriate type of bulb for the fixture.

#2 An Overloaded Circuit

When we move on to some more significant causes of light flickering, one could be an overloaded circuit. When you turn on a larger appliance like your AC, heater, etc. and notice your light flickering, it clearly indicates an overload. The flickering is probably not too severe if it is brief and infrequent. It's time to investigate the circuit overload if it occurs frequently or lasts longer than a few seconds. Call professional electricians in Macarthur if there is an overload issue.

#3 Heavy Usage

Throughout the day, there can be peaks in usage for utility services. When you or anyone connected to the transformer uses a lot of power, your utility service's lines or transformers might have a problem.

You cannot, regrettably, resolve this problem on your own. Hiring electricians in Liverpool is a must!

#4 Utility Services

Sometimes the problem originates with your electric company, the electricity provider. This is a particular issue if homes nearby share a transformer, causing their electrical loads to share your electrical supply.

Simply put, your lights might start flickering if your neighbour uses a lot of electricity. If this occurs, speak with an electrician to see if any repairs are necessary.

These are some of the most common causes of flickering lights. Even though there are more that could cause a light to flicker, take note of these causes.
