by Manya Verma Health care and lifestyle

The blood flows at a steady pace no matter what you are doing. But if by any chance the rate changes due to a change in position, there can be a chance of suffering from a condition called orthostatic intolerance (OI). The symptoms of this condition are common to that of any heart condition like dizziness, lightheadedness or faint when you suddenly stand up after lying down. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is a medical condition which has OI as its most common symptom, says cardiologist from a heart hospital Patna.

While suffering from POTS, the stays in the lower body parts when you suddenly stand up which may cause your heart to beat faster as the brain needs the blood. This may cause your heart rate to go up by 30 beats or more after standing up which also results in dropping the blood pressure level. A cardiologist in Patna has found out that this condition is most common in women aged between 15 to 50 years.

Causes:

The cause of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is still unclear to doctors as it can occur after pregnancy, trauma, before a menstrual period, viral flu or major surgery. There is a top cardiologist in India who has suspected what could lead to the condition. Here are a few abnormalities that are associated with POTS and may play a very important role in its development.

· Dysfunction of nerves in legs and feet muscles may be caused while suffering from postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

· The reduction in the blood flow in the upper part of the body may occur as, during this condition, the blood circulation level decreases abnormally in the body.

· When the position is changed, a low amount of blood returns to the heart.

· Dysfunctions of heart and blood vessel along with abnormality in blood pressure level.

· Blurry eyes, exercise intolerance, excessive or lack of sweating are some other causes that may be caused when being affected by postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

Although people with no POTS history are mostly seen affected by the condition. If you face the symptoms of POTS, do consult a heart specialist in Patna immediately. Refer to a heart hospital in Patna if you or someone you know has been affected by this condition.
