What Can You Do if You Are Entitled To Receive Lufthansa Delayed Flight Compensation?
by John Smith LearnerWe all know the
stress and anxiety about flight travel delays. There are so many things that
can happen and it can be hard to stay ahead of the things that may occur. On
top of that, some things are just out of our control.
In those cases,
you may be trying to sort out what may be best in regards to staying ahead of
issues like flight delays. Knowing what you have the right to do and what you
need to do can go a really long way. So, what do you need to do if there’s a
delay or cancellation of a flight you’re taking? Here are some of the steps you
will want to go ahead and take.
Reschedule Any Reservations or Meetings
Before you get
started with processes around Lufthansa
delayed flight compensation, you need to make sure that anything on
the other end of your trip is taken care of. Do you have restaurant
reservations or meetings that you’re supposed to be at? Take some time to email
and get the wheels turning so that they can be rescheduled.
Do You Have Travel Insurance?
If you have travel insurance, then you
also need to get those wheels turning as well. The only time that insurance
kicks in is when the disruption is due to weather, airport strike, or other
force majeure, so you want to be sure you understand that before dropping money
on travel insurance.
The travel insurance company will have
to verify a few things, of course, but they will do everything possible to
ensure that you’ve got the proper compensation based on the travel insurance
plan that you paid for. And, they will communicate with you about what you’re
eligible for on their end.
Get Compensation
Laws are in
place in the EU, US and most everywhere that protect travelers when they are
going from place to place. These laws include reasons why passengers may need
compensation, how much compensation must be provided, and other details.
The minute that
you know that your flight is delayed or cancelled, you will want to go to the
counter where a representative from the airline you were on is located. You
will, likely, have to wait in line if you don’t get there first thing.
The
representative should, then, provide you with the resources that you need from
them. If it’s delayed until the next day or cancelled, then the airline should
provide you with overnight accommodations. Food vouchers are also expected, so
that you and those traveling with you can get a snack or meal.
In the event of
a flight cancellation, the airline is required to work with you in order to get
you onto another flight of some sort. It may not be with the same airline, and
it may be the next day, but the airline needs to do its part in getting you
where you need to go.
Lastly, there may be compensation
involved. As a passenger, you have a number of rights, and one of those rights
is to seek out compensation for up to 600 Euros (or $700 USD). In the European
Union, every single reason for a flight delay falls under this umbrella, except
bad weather, air traffic control restrictions, or bird strike.
The difference in compensation is
dependent on how far the trip was going to be. Trips of up to 1500 km offer 250
Euros in compensation; 1500 km to 3500 km are eligible for 400 Euros, and over
3500 are eligible for 600 Euros. Those numbers
are the same for cancellations, as well.
The United States is different – the
airlines are not required by law to provide compensation, but they often will.
The only requirement for United States airlines is that crew members or airport
staff are to inform you about the status of the delay every 30 minutes.
What If the Airline is Uncooperative About
Compensation?
Delayed flight
compensation from Lufthansa should not be difficult to get, but the process may
not run smoothly. In those situations, you are going to want to engage a claims
company like AirAdvisor.
These companies focus on helping travelers get the compensation that they
deserve for the inconveniences of cancellations and delays.
As you look at
what you need to do and how you need to get there, be sure that you research
all of your options and see what you can do. There are a variety of
opportunities out there for people in these situations. You want to have
tickets, boarding passes, and all receipts when you work with a compensation
company. Then, they can use that info in order to help you get the compensation
you are owed.
