by Ove Jebsen Norwegian Ship Sales As, Ship Brokers
There is a prevailing misconception that ferries are for those who prefer to travel on budget. Often the quite simple task of carrying passengers and at times, cargoes to and from the water bodies do not seem that remarkable. However, the process dates back to several centuries back. The reason why these are rampantly used as an alternative means of transportation is definitely because they are cheaper. However, at the same time the travellers can indulge in sightseeing. Additionally whether you are carrying luggage or want to travel with your vehicles, the ferries are of great help.

Owing to these reasons, the ferryboats are still considered important means of transportation throughout the world. Moreover, ferries are also quite common in oceans or larger seas. They help in connecting countries. However, besides simply offering to and fro services on particular routes, the ferries can be categorized into various types depending on their usage. In fact, each of these are designed specially to serve certain purposes.

Let’s find out how each of the ferries are used:

Car Ferries – These smallest ones are used specifically for transporting cars and lighter vehicles. They’re very little or no space for the passengers. During the ride, the passengers prefer to stay inside their cars and drive off as soon as they reach port. The larger ferries have ample space and lounge facilities for passengers. The car ferries are designed for short journeys. As a result, a handful of facilities is found on-board. However, if the passengers are opting for larger ferries, entertainment facilities might be available. Foot passengers are also given space. As a result, both cars and passengers can be accommodated.

Channel Ferry – Mostly used in the English Channel. These ferries are normally large day ferries with very good passenger and garage capacity.

ROPAX ferries – These are used mainly for carrying trailers and their drivers for overnight services. Normally these ferries have cabins and beds for the drivers including restaurant facilities.

How are ferries used for commerce?

For shuttling both freight and people, ferries are the most effective means of transportation. Moreover, these are also applicable for tourism purpose. Instead of hitting the road, tourists often prefer taking up the waterway to explore the various city landmarks. Moreover, as the opportunities increase with the global expansion in the water transport industry, ferries prove to be successful investments to boost commerce.

One of the main advantages of travelling on a ferry is that they are cheap. As a result, commuters prefer using them. In addition, people can avoid traffic jams and pollution that plagues the city roads.

From a business perspective, it seems wise enough to invest in passenger ferries if you are ready to deal with water transport industry. According to the latest reports, there have been huge improvements in the ferry business in the recent years. Thus, it is time to take advantage of the boom and invest in the passenger ferries for sale.
