What are the different types of EHR systems?

by Annie P. SEO

Physicians or clinicians use electronic health records (EHRs) to contain patients' medical records digitally. Physicians store and maintain patients' medical records in electronic health records software. This software provides many benefits to physicians. It helps providers to maintain records, provides accurate, up-to-date, and complete information of patients, So, providers can examine their patients according to medical records.

Following are the details contained in Electronic Health Records Software:

  • Diagnosis

  • Allergies

  • Vitals

  • Demographics

  • Insurance and claims details

  • Progress Notes

  • Radiology images

  • Vaccination dates

  • Medication details

  • Laboratory reports

  • Televisits

With electronic health records software, Physicians can access their patient's details from any device like mobiles, laptops, tablets, and computers from anywhere.

When patients visit any clinic or hospital, they don't have to carry their medical records because electronic health records software provides functionality to easily share details between physicians, clinicians, laboratories, insurance companies, organizations, and hospitals.

With paper records, providers have to store multiple files in one large room and maintain these files for many years, and it takes lots of time to search for any patient's records. But with the EHR system, providers don't have to worry about storing details in any room because EHR is a cloud-based system, and providers can search any patient's details with just a few clicks.

EHRs software helps providers to improve productivity and healthcare goals. Electronic health records software saves a lot of time, So, physicians can spend more time with their patients.

Electronic health records software is not only beneficial for physicians but can be beneficial for patients also. Electronic health records software provides many amazing features, and one of the features is the patient portal. With the patient portal, patients can verify their medical records at any time and understand their diagnosis carefully. In addition, patients can communicate with their providers at any time.

Types of Electronic Health Records:

 1. Physician-hosted System:

In a physician-hosted system, Physicians or providers install their EHR system on their server. They have to purchase hardware and software and are also responsible for maintaining their data and security.

2. Remotely-hosted System:

Data can be stored in a third-party server instead of a physician's server in a remotely-hosted system. So, the Third-party is responsible for maintaining data and security and also responsible for hardware security.

3. Remote Systems:

Remote systems are divided into three parts:

Subsidized system:

A subsidized system involves a connection with some organization that subsidizes the cost of an EHR. In most cases, a physician develops this partnership with a hospital, which subsequently holds the data.

Dedicated system:

In a dedicated system, Physicians don't have to purchase any hardware or software. Instead, they store their data on a vendor's server. Unfortunately, those servers are located in different locations, so physicians can't control most aspects.

Cloud system:

Most of the EHR system is a cloud-based system, So, physicians don't have to install any software in their system, but their vendors store data in Cloud. Physicians do not need to keep data on their servers; instead, a provider is stored "in the cloud." So, Physicians can access their data on the internet.
