What Are The Different Branches Of Engineering?

by Ashish K. Articles
Engineering comprises the application of mathematical methods, scientific theories, and technological solutions. This domain is created to design, analyze, and draft the best solutions, keeping factors like practicality, physical laws, human factors, cost, and safety in mind. Indeed, engineering has become one of the top fields in today’s world. Some of the major branches of engineering include mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, and civil engineering. Combination of one or two of these branches gives rise to other branches of engineering. Irrespective of the branch of engineering to which an engineer belongs, his/her main work is to link the major scientific discoveries with their industrial/ commercial applications, so that the major consumer requirements are taken care of.

What Are The Different Branches Of Engineering?
Today’s engineers are offered the option to choose between several branches of engineering to make their career according to their interest. All of them cater to different consumer needs. Following are the major branches of engineering:

·    Material Engineering: This type of engineering deals with the application of metallic and non-metallic substances like composites, polymers, and ceramics. A material engineer ensures proper conversion of raw materials into finished products. It also includes different areas like manufacturing, chemical, electrical, mining, etc.

·    Aerospace Engineering: Designing, construction, and specifications of aircrafts and other propulsion systems are done by aerospace engineers. An aerospace engineer should have knowledge of metallurgy, structural analysis, aerodynamics application, operational systems, and others to perform these tasks properly.

·    Biomedical Engineering: This branch of engineering is vast and multi-disciplinary. Biomedical engineers are usually appointed by hospitals for correct operation of therapeutic medical equipment, monitoring, and diagnostics. Their main responsibility is to provide assistance to various surgical departments.

·    Mining Engineering: Mining engineers have to determine the nature and grade of the metallic as well as non-metallic ores like uranium, coal etc. The mining engineers draft the methodology that would be followed during mining. They have to ensure optimum use of human resources, financial resources, and equipment.

·    Software Engineering: This type of engineering has evolved from computer system engineering and involves the application of computer science. Usually, the government and several private companies employ software engineers to create and manage software for different tasks in their offices.

·    Civil Engineering: Civil engineers are appointed for construction work of bridges, schools, sheds, drainage systems, sewerage, water supply systems, airports, canals, dams, etc. These engineers work for both private as well as government sectors. They are also accountable for assessing the environmental impact of any infrastructure project.

Apart from the ones discussed above, there are several other branches of engineering available in which the aspiring engineers can specialize. They can join any of these fields and look for job opportunities in the same. They can also browse the internet for engineering job opportunities in United States or any other country in which they reside to cut short their job search period.
