What Are The Differences Between IPs of Dedicated and Shared Hosting?
There are differences of IPs between shared hosting and dedicated hosting solutions. Let’s check out the differences. Shared IP
If you are a dummy to servers and hosting, it is important to note that IP address is assigned to each domain name. In fact, IP numbers are the real website addresses and may look something like this: 192.149.252.76. Just by having a look at it you can see the complexity involved and the practical difficulty it has in remembering it. To make the process simpler, domain names were developed.
When it comes to shared hosting, hundreds of websites are hosted on a single server. However, this doesn’t mean that all the hosted websites will have unique IP addresses. In fact, all of them share a single IP. This phenomenon may not seem much of an issue. However, it will have serious repercussions in two fronts:
i. If any one of the sites is censored for any reason (which is done on the basis of the IP address of that site), the other sites that share the same IP with that site will also bear the brunt. If for security reasons one IP is blocked by any government agency, the other sites sharing the IP address with it will also get blocked automatically.
ii. Another repercussion will be from the Search engine Optimization perspective. Suppose, there is a website in a shared hosting environment that is considered as a bad neighbourhood site. Other sites, even if they don’t belong to the bad neighbourhood, sharing the IP address with that bad neighbourhood website will bear the brunt. This is because Google or any other search engine bot will only recognise one IP address that has bad neighbourhood properties. Consequently, ranking of all the sites that shared IP address with that bad neighbourhood site will be adversely affected, by getting a down vote from the search engine bot.
Dedicated IP
Now, if a website owner buys dedicated hosting solution, that website will get IP address that is dedicated for that site only. Suppose 192.149.252.76 IP address is not shared with any other site and is essentially dedicated to a certain website only. In case of Google’s website, they have a unique IP, which is http://64.233.187.99/. It is seen that websites having dedicated IPs get advantage in relation to shared hosting sites in the sense that search engine bots don’t find any mixed signal from the same IP (where bad neighbourhood sites may also been hosted in case of shared servers).
Is there any difference between emails of shared and dedicated hosting solutions?
Many businesses ask the question whether their email services get affected due to nature of IP address (dedicated hosting or shared hosting). If there is a mailing list where emails are to be sent, you will only need a simple program that will take just over 10 minutes time for sending email s. All kinds of emails, which include forwarded mails, use mail proxy servers.
