Mites: The invisible tenants of our home

What are mites? Where are mites most often found? What does a mite bite look like - do mites even bite? Allergic reactions to dust mites and how to get rid of dust mites are just some of the issues that we will expose in this blog.
House mites are microscopically small organisms that belong to the group of arachnids. Although there are thousands of species of mites, we most often encounter two types in our homes: dust mites and tick mites. Dust mites feed on human dead skin, while tick mites prefer to feed on pet hair. These tiny creatures cannot be seen with the naked eye, but they are present all around us.

  Mites in bed

Dust mites can be found in all parts of our home, but most often we can find them in beds, pillows, mattresses, carpets, curtains and furniture. These areas provide ideal habitat for them as they are often warm, moist and rich in dead skin or hair.

The impact of mites on our health

Although mites are invisible, their impact on our health can be significant. Their droppings and waste can cause allergic reactions in many people, resulting in coughing, sneezing, itching, stuffy noses and other allergy-like symptoms. Asthma sufferers may also experience worsening symptoms if exposed to dust mites.

How to get rid of mites?

Now that we know more about the presence of mites in our home, here are some tips on how to deal with them:

Clean regularly: Vacuum and dust frequently to remove dead skin and hair that attract mites. Wash sheets and pillowcases at high temperatures to kill dust mites.
Maintain humidity: Mites do not like dry places, so maintaining optimal humidity in the home can reduce their population. Use humidifiers or other methods to maintain humidity between 40% and 50%.
Reduce clutter: Reduce clutter in your home to limit dust mite hiding places. Fewer objects to hold dust on means less food for mites.
Use protective covers: Covering mattresses, pillows and mattresses with special protective covers can help prevent the penetration of dust mites and their droppings.

Conclusion:
We learned what mites are and that they are definitely invisible residents of our home. Although they are small, their impact on our health can be significant. Regular cleaning of furniture, maintaining optimal humidity and reducing clutter can help reduce the presence of mites in our home. Knowing about them and taking appropriate precautions will help us maintain a clean and healthy environment for ourselves and our loved ones.
It's also important to note that dust mite cleaning can be a very effective way to reduce their presence in your home.
