What are Common Problems with Your Mac to Fix Yourself

Startup Issues

In case your Mac fails to boot properly, you will notice a blank or gray startup screen instead of the desktop. Don’t fret. The system needs booting in the Safe Mode. In the Safe Mode, your Mac would repair any directory issues. Start your Mac and press the Shift key till the Apple logo appears and release the shift button when the login screen appears. It may take a few minutes, so maintain patience. Once the problem is fixed, leave the safe mode and restart your system.

 

Apps are Unresponsive

 It is annoying when some apps hang or become unresponsive. When you face freezing of an application, quit the application. For this, access the Force Quit windows on your system or by hitting the Command-Option-Escape. After that, highlight the app that is unresponsive and hit the tab Force Quit. It is how you can quit the app which is not responding and get rid of hanging apps problem.

Noticing Spinning of Beach Ball

Various reasons trigger slow or poor performance of Mac. If you notice the spinning beach ball regularly, it shows some applications are taking time to access or consuming more memory resources. Open the Activity Monitor which is in the Utilities folder. It displays the currently running apps and the real-time stats on the amount of CPU and memory resources using by them. If any of these apps consuming more memory than expected, close the app. In the Activity Monitor, highlight the application that you want to quit and click the X button in the upper-left-corner and then choose Quit.

Internet is Not Working

Sometimes, internet stop working even the Wi-Fi connection has no error. In this situation, the MacBook’s Wi-Fi status shows No Internet Connection.

Fix the problem by accessing the Network page in the System Preferences, press the Advanced button. It will show a list of Preferred Networks. These are those Wi-Fi connections that you have used in the past. The system keeps the record of the network to use them in future. Highlight your Wi-Fi network and press “-“ button and then select Remove to forget it. Hence, the network will remove you can now click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar and reconnect with the network.
