What All You Need to Know About Mechatronics & 3D Modeling?

by J.N. White Associates Precision Answers
For over 25 years, mechatronics term has been extensively used in Japan and it has led to invention of some special breed of intelligent products. What exactly mechatronics is?
In the evolutionary process of modern engineering for manufacturing design this term is widely used. For some, mechatronics is a philosophical approach towards designing that acts as a guide for many activities. The mechatronics is certainly an evolutionary process and not a revolutionary one. The well-known definition of mechatronics is all about the synergistic integration of mechanical, electrical and various computer systems.

Let us discuss things in detail here:

1.
The mechatronics can reach up to various disciplines that can be characterized by constituent components that comprise mechatronics. It includes:
  • Computers and logic systems.
  • Software and data acquisition.
  • Physical systems modeling.
  • Sensors and actuators.
  • Signals and systems.

2.
The engineers and scientists from every field of study can contribute towards mechatronics. As engineering for manufacturing boundaries become less defined, the students can seek multi-disciplinary education with a strong design component.

3.
The process of 3D modeling is used in the engineering for manufacturing. It is used as a mathematical component to develop and represent the surface of the object as a complete image. A model could either be created by using a computer program or by  hand. Models that are created by hand are not very commonly used nowadays; mostly the designers prefer to work with a computer screen and keyboard to create prototypes.

4.
The models that are generated on a computer screen make use of a geometric equation that connects points or triangles, curves, lines etc. These geometric equations are created by hand on paper with the same collection of data points that are used in the computer rendering. They can then be scanned into a computer for any further manipulation.

5.
The developments in automotive can provide vivid examples of mechatronics development, there are many examples of intelligent systems used in every walk of life. It includes smart home appliances such as dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, microwaves, and wireless network enabled devices.

In the era of user friendly machines, we expect that there are more advancements in robot-assisted surgery, and implantable sensors and actuators. Also, other areas can get benefit from mechatronic advances that include robotics, engineering for manufacturing, space technology etc. The future of mechatronics is wide open.
