What All You Need in Your Offline POS Hardware?

by Compu Cash Compucash

POS hardware setups can differ from one merchant to the next, from big box stores with self-service kiosks, to small-time entrepreneurs who usually accept payments on their smartphones. Most businesses, however, would like to find a happy between these two POS setups and incorporate a few core pieces of equipment related to offline POS Abu Dhabi into their hardware set up. There are some POS hardware items that you really need, and then there are some things you can afford to live without.

The Basic Setup

Given below are all the basics you need to get started. Some of these components come combined with some PSO's. For example, the credit card also might as well print receipts.

Register

Register here does not mean your old-school paper register. This term has different meaning these days, with latest cloud POS systems scrapping ''cash'' from the term cash register. Register of latest POS systems consists of a computer or touch-screen tablet PC with an enclosure. Majority of registers only need an operating system and some kind of computer to run your POS software on. Depending on which POS system you choose, it will probably be a piece of laptop or an iPad. You will need to have one computer/tablet per register.

Credit Card Terminal

The credit card terminal is another essential piece of POS hardware. It comes in different varieties and form factors. It could be a magic stripe card reader, or one that can carry out both swipe cards and chip-card transactions. Lightweight mobile POS solutions are super-minimalistic, with only a small square that plugs into your phone or tablet's headphone jack.

Receipt Printer

Though a large number of customers prefer email receipts, you still need to have an option of giving printed receipts as there's a large chunk of customers who still prefer to have paper receipt as a valid proof of their purchase. As mentioned earlier in the article, some credit card readers have in-built printers, while other POS systems use separate receipt printers. A thermal receipt printer is usually the best choice for quick, high-volume receipt printing.

Barcode Scanner

In any offline POS Abu Dhabi setup, you will require a barcode scanner, so you can scan items to ring them up. The scanner pairs with a label printer, which is still essential to your POS. The scanner is usually a hand scanner and it can also be wireless. Various retail items are scanned using the built-in front-facing camera on the register.

Cash Drawer

Though electronic cash transactions have reduced large amounts of cash to a considerable extent, similar to printed receipts, there are customers who will still buy anything in cash. You need to have this option for them. With a cash drawer, you can accept cash and give change. The cash drawer could be connected to the register via USB cord, or it could even be wireless.

Networking Equipment

Modern POS systems require an active internet connection most of the times. You will probably need a router, modem and associated cables to get online.
