Red: Color red that symbolizes marital bliss as well as fertility,is the most preferred color for wedding silk sarees especially in the North of India as well as Bengal and some parts of South India as well.

Yellow: Another colour that’s prominent in Indian wedding silk sarees is yellow. The color of harvest, yellow is a preferred wedding saree color because it is considered sacred and as color of healing and beauty. In eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the maternal grandmother gives her would be bride granddaughter  a yellow saree for lagan. The groom on the other hand wears a golden yellow jama-chola or dhoti.

Green: Color green that symbolizes growth, harmony and freshness is another popular color among brides especially from the west India, Maharastra in particular. The Maharashtrian brides often wear green colored 9 yard sarees with red borders that are wrapped around the legs signifying the fresh beginning of a new and prosperous life that is in store for her.

White: White color that stands for purity and sacredness marks the beginning of brides of certain parts of southern India, especially Kerala. In Andhra Pradesh too, certain rituals involved at the time of wedding include wearing of white saree by the bride.
