Ways to Protect Your Eyes in summer

by Rajeev Kumar Leading Eye Hospital Network India
The scorching sun, heat, and sweat during the summer season can cause great damage to your eyes. Exposure to bright sunlight, dust, and sweat can cause numerous eye problems and infections.

Here we have listed some ways for you to protect your eyes in summer.

Wear protective eyewear

During the summertime, sunglasses are must-haves. It is so because our eyes require protection from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Direct exposure of your eyes to the ultra-violet radiations from the sun can cause eye problems such as cataract. Hence, use of protective eyewear is highly recommended. Ensure that the quality of the sunglasses is good. It implies that the eyewear must be able to protect your eyes from the UVA and UVB rays of the sun.

Be Hygienic

Summer is the season of sweating and excessive exposure to bacteria and germs. Thus, actions like rubbing your eyes with unwashed hands can cause contact of these germs with your eyes. It can cause eye infections, irritation, and eye allergies.  Therefore, to keep your eyes healthy during the summer season you must take care of your routine hygiene.

Cover your eyes while swimming

Swimming pools bring the greatest relief from the heat during the summertime. Nonetheless, in order to ensure your eye health, you must never dive into the swimming pool without covering your eyes. It is so because the presence of chlorine in the water is harmful to the eyes. Therefore, always ensure to cover your eyes while swimming.

Use Eye drops to keep your eyes lubricated

A sensation of inflammation and irritation in the eye is a common eye problem during summers. Excessive strain on the eyes due to the sunlight can cause dry and itchy eyes. Hence, it causes irritation. To avoid the experience of dry and dull eyes during summers you must use eye drops. Prescriptive eye drops or artificial tears helps in keeping the eyes lubricated and reduces the eye strain.

Drink plenty of Water

Your body may often feel dehydrated during the season. This lack of amount of water in your body greatly affects the health of your eyes. Due to dehydration, the tear gland reduces the capability of developing tears in our eyes. Thus, depriving our eyes of the required lubrication and causing the dry eye syndrome. Drinking loads of water can help you prevent the dry eye syndrome and keep your vision healthy.

Take enough sleep

Allow your eyes the required rest to keep them healthy. After a day of consistent working in front of computer screens, your eyes tend to experience a lot of strain. Thus, it is important to take enough deep sleep and provide the needed rest to your eyes.
