Warning Signs with Wedding Limo Providers

If there’s one day in your life where you won’t want to be letdown or experience administration foul-ups, it’s your wedding day.

Yet sadly, that’s exactly what some Brides and Grooms have to go through due to having experienced professional incompetence or even negligence on the part of their wedding limo provider.

Of course, the majority of such companies will be professional and conscientious but how can you tell in advance whether or not you’re dealing with a trustworthy organisation? To help, here are a few tips that might help you spot those companies that could best be described as ‘a risky bet’ in terms of being responsible for your wedding day transport.

·         Be very cautious with ‘one man bands’. However good the individual owner-driver may be, they’ll perhaps struggle to cope with things such as vehicle breakdowns or last-minute illness, on your big day. Instead, look to companies that have a fleet and multiple personnel, as that will give them ‘strength in depth’.

·         Investigate their background. This really means making sure that they’ve been around for at least a few years. Using new start-ups can be riskier than selecting established luxury limousine rental providers and although it might sound tough, you may need to ask yourself if you want them to be “learning the trade” on your wedding day.

·         Look closely at their vehicle(s). There’s a HUGE difference between a vintage wedding limo that’s specifically positioned as such and one that’s frankly just very tired and bordering on being clapped-out. Old and tired-looking limos often have commensurately tired engines and electrical systems. Unless you’re idea of fun is breakingdown on the way to the service or arriving belching smoke, ask for EXACT details about the age of the proposed vehicle.

·         Check the provider’s insurance. It’s not unknown for some limo owners to do a bit of ‘work on the side’ offering their car for hire. You will be at risk if they’re unregistered and/or without appropriate professional insurance. Ask them to show you a copy of their insurance certificate and check to ensure that it provides cover for professional hire use of the vehicle concerned. Do NOT accept excuses or equivocation here.

·         Ask for references. If they can’t provide them or only have 1-2 available, then be wary. It’s a fact that no company will provide the contact details of unhappy customers but they should have plenty of happy clients to choose from. If they haven’t, well… In passing, remember also that references are useless unless you follow one or two of them up – selected at random. Don’t be swayed by web-based positive feedback either, as it’s perfectly possible to buy that from unscrupulous individuals.

·         Ask for the chauffeur’s name and details of their employment. OK, you probably have no right to know confidential information about their employment but you can legitimately ask how long they’ve been employed.  If you find you’re being allocated someone who has only just joined the provider concerned, it might be cause for a little concern.

None of the things above can absolutely guarantee that you’ll avoid transport traumas on your wedding day but they should help!
