by William Jones manager

There are certain parameters to decide whether your switchboard needs to be replaced or not. The fuse boxes are may be damaged or they are not coping with the demands for which you have placed them, and that could be an overheating or frequent trip. For example, they are not able to cover the electric demand of appliances like pool pumps and air conditioners.

So, whether it is old one or frown, you should identify the need to upgrade the fuse box to be installed with a circuit breaker that can protect both your people and property.

How long does it take to replace a fuse box: Fuse box is one of the upgradable items in an old house. Well, whether it is a simple changeover for standard old school fuse box or the modern one, it will take more or less 4 hours.

What if your home was more than 25 years old? In such cases, you might have to have the mains power upgrade that can go with the increased power requirements. It means, upgrading the size of the cable for wiring will take near about 8 hours.

There is one more scenario, where the fuse boxes were installed anywhere in the property by commercial electrical services in Gold Coast, which is quite tricky to get a proper reading of the meter. However, at present legal requirements need the switch box to be located at certain locations which should be less than 2 meters from the ground and 2 meters of the front of the house.

How much does it cost to replace the fuse box: Replacing the fuse box is not as simple as plugging the new one, unplugging the old. Upon upgrading a fusebox, the electrician must upkeep home’s electrical wiring according to the legal standards.

The basic fuse box upgrades with safety switch protection costs between $900-$1200, which is based on the number of circuits your house has.

When is it required to repair the circuit breaker?

We all know circuit breakers are the basics of the fuse box. They are responsible for detecting a problem and stop the current supply by opening the circuit. With time, circuit breakers have been evolved a lot to offer a safer functionality that works faster than the earlier versions. So, the types are-

  • Ceramic fuses for electrical protection: Ceramic fuses are old school form of electrical protection. They offer short-circuit and overload protection that prevents the risk of electrical shock to people and property.

  • Plugin circuit breaker: It is plugged into the old porcelain fuse base, with which you no more have to juggle with the wire in the dark. But, it will offer the same protection as fuses.

  • Hardwired circuit breakers:It was step up for safety, and they act quicker than the fuses or plug-in breakers to offer overload protection.

  • Safety switches: Being an advancement in giving protection from electric overload, safety switches protect a number of circuits at a time. And, they are linked to a number of circuit breakers.

Lastly, while capping of here, experts advice to replace older style circuit breakers with the combination switches by industrial electricians in Hope Island. It will offer greater safety as well as peace of mind while reducing the chances of tripping.
