Using the Stock Screener Tool to Trade Successfully in the German Stock Market

by Alan McKnight Article Writer
For any investor who is serious about his trades and the money and effort being invested, helpful and profitable tools are very important. Find out how a stock screener helps you improve your stock trading techniques.

For any investor that's seeking to invest in the German stock market, the stock screener is an invaluable tool. The main securities exchange in Germany is the Frankfurt stock exchange, situated in the city of Frankfurt am Main, Germany and owned and run by the Deutsche Borse. This exchange is the 10th largest in the world according to market capitalization.

Companies and Trades Within the Frankfurt Stock Exchange
Trading within the Frankfurt stock exchange occurs exclusively using the Xetra system, which was launched in November of 1999, and regular floor trading was completely abolished from the system in May of 2011.

Xetra, also known as Exchange Electronic Trading, is an electronic system for the trading of securities within the exchange and it was originally created for the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Today, about 14 other exchanges around the world also make use of the Xetra trading system, including those in Ireland, Vienna, Bulgaria, and Budapest.

Companies that have their securities listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange are based in about 80 different countries around the world, including those from the Northern American, Southern American, European, Asian, Australian, and African continents. The main market indices include the DAX, DAXplus, and EuroStoxx 50.

History
The history of the Frankfurt stock exchange can apparently be traced as far back as the 16th century. Some people say even farther back that to the 9th century, when Emperor Louis the German issued a free letter that allowed people to hold free trade fairs. Because of his action, by the 16th century, the city of Frankfurt had developed a wealthy economy that thrived on trade and financial services.

In the year 1585, a stock exchange of sorts was set up to establish fixed exchange rates for currency, and this was the beginning of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange as we know it today.

How the Stock Screener can Help You
After gathering all this information about the German stock market and its main representative body, your desire to invest in this market may have been enhanced. The stock market is one of the most preferred places to invest money among investors everywhere. Any seasoned investor will readily tell you, however, that simply having money to invest is not a guarantee for successful and profitable stock trading.
In order to trade successfully in any stock market, you absolutely should not be without two very important things:

  1. Precise and accurate knowledge
  2. Helpful tools

The stock screener is one such tool that can significantly contribute to the success of your trades; it works by allowing you to clearly and accurately analyze the stocks within a market and choose the ones to trade on based on criteria that you have carefully selected beforehand.

There are global stock screeners available, and there are also specific ones for specific markets. For example, for the Frankfurt stock market, you would use the Xetra stock screener or the German stock screener tool.
