Use high quality and durable arc welder to make the joints solid and stronger

by Longevity Inc Industrial Mechanical

Arc welding is the one of the oldest and most probably the strongest way of joining two metal pieces together. While carrying out the process, an electric current is passed that allows an electric arc to melt down the work pieces. A filler metal is also used in arc welding which mixes with the two metal pieces, further making the joint solid and stronger. This form of welding process is quite affordable and the welding supplies such as filler metal and shielding gas are also inexpensive.

There are different types of welding processes and the common thing in all is that they require intense heat. A welding arc, wire or electrode dispenses the heat depending on the varying processes. However, electrode is the most preferable out of all as it is easier to change the electrode rod by popping them out of the holder. Each of the arc welding processes has its own set of advantages.

Arc welders are very much affordable and easily available, making their demand reach to the next level in the welding industry. Most of the welding professionals purchase their own arc welding equipment. Not only the professionals but also the hobbyists own their portable arc welders. If you are deciding to buy an arc welder, ensure that you are aware of the requirements so that you can purchase the machine that best suits your needs.

There are myriad of reasons why you need to have an arc welder at home or in your personal welding shop. If you are just an enthusiast, you can still perform this welding as many forms of arc welding are easy to learn and handle. It can help save you a lot of money as the work you would have got done through contract can be done yourself. And if you are a pro, you can earn a lot by taking up the welding work of others or taking up a professional job in welding industry.

Choose from the multiple arc welding techniques based on your work needs. The two most famous and widely used arc welding techniques are listed below:

Gas metal arc welding (GMAW)

GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is an electric arc welding process and is also referred to as MIG welding. This welding process offers a lot of versatility and is capable of welding most types of metals. This semi-automatic arc welding uses a continuous and consumable wire electrode and also a shielding gas. It allows the welder to weld in most of the positions, flat horizontal being the most optimum. This welding method can be used to weld metals of all thickness from light sheet material to unlimited thickness by using multiple passes. Only high amperage and the right joint configuration are needed to weld. GMAW welding method can be used on multiple metals from high quality steel to metals like nickel, aluminum and more. The welds produced are of very high quality with only little spatter produced. This process gives the highest electrode efficiency of about 93-97%. This welding technique provides higher productivity in comparison with other welding methods. A lot of time is saved as there is no need to change the rods constantly or chip away the slag or repeatedly brushing the weld. It allows welding professionals to work faster and cleaner.

Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW)

Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) is also referred to as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. It is the most demanded welding technique. No other technique can beat TIG welding as it provides neat, precise and detailed welds. TIG welder uses a non-consumable electrode and tungsten inert gas for shielding. This welding process is used to weld thin sections of stainless steel and light metals such as aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloys. This welding method doesn’t produce any harmful emissions or smoke assuring a healthy and safe working environment to the welding professionals. In fact, earlier welding non-ferrous metals was a challenging task but now with TIG welding equipment non-ferrous metals or metals that are not iron based can be welded easily and smoothly. These include non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum and magnesium. GTAW welding process provides a good amount of versatility. For many applications, it is suitable to work with consumable filler rods to create a weld fill whereas in conditions when a filler weld is not necessary it can work without it.
