Plug valves are widely used in gas and oil industries for controlling flow of fluids. What is a plug valve? A plug valve is either shaped like a cylinder or cone and it can be rotated inside the valve body so that fluids can be controlled. It can be either one or passageways to ease the flow when the valve is opened and are usually placed horizontally. The two port model is the most commonly used plug valve type and it has the open and close position. The ports in the valve are usually placed opposite to each other and there is one passage way that leads the inbound to out bound. Stem of the valve and the handle is located on top of the valve.

When quick and repeated operations are required a plug valve with quarter turn is most useful and the valve ends can be hub type, flanged or but weld. Several kinds of plug valves are used in the oil and gas industry and also in mines. Plug valves can go wrong due to constant use and industries usually replace them with new ones, but it is possible for the valves to be upgraded and there are industries that are engaged in plug valve upgrade so that they can be used in the pipelines again. This is great news because it saves a huge chunk of money that otherwise would have been spent on buying an entirely new plug valve.

High Pressure Flow Iron certification is a must procedure for all equipment with high-pressure surface as they are used in pressure pumping maneuvers. The test is to certify that the high pressure surface equipment engaged in the operations do confirm to the imposed norms and safe to put into operations. There are industries that undertake rebuilding and recertification of parts such as plug valves check valves, swivel joints, pup joints, and relief valves. The inspection includes visual, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic wall thickness, thread gauging, hydrostatic pressure testing and asset tracking and iron management.

Highest quality standards are maintained in the oil and gas industries and the re-certification of flow iron ensure that they are maintained and abided during operations. The process actually saves the cost of buying new equipment as the company that undertakes the recertification process ensures that all equipments and parts are absolutely refurbished and ready for use in pipelines. Only authorized industries carry out the recertification processes.
