Unique Wedding Photo Location Ideas

by Debbie Heidmans The Memories Place
Wedding photos are so important because it’s such a busy day, you will want to have the photos to re-live the day over and over. Want to make your wedding photos stand out? There are some unique location options that you should explore to incorporate something different into your pictures.

The Park. Taking wedding photos at a park in your town is certainly not a new idea. However several years ago my friends got married and while we took some traditional photos, it was the photos at the park that stood out in my mind. We utalized a lot of the playground for the wedding photos. For example, we shot one set of photos on a play castle, with the bridesmaids at the top and the groomsmen “storming the castle.” All these years later that’s the photo that stands out from the day in my mind.

A Location Unique to You. Take some photos at a place that’s special to your relationship. Maybe it’s the restaurant where you had your first date, or a concert venue where you saw your favorite band. Whatever location that is important to the two of you should be incorporated into your wedding photos.

A Monument or Older Building. If there is a landmark that is special to you, that’s great. If not take a few wedding photos somewhere in your town with beautiful architecture. Typically that’s at a monument or and older building, like a town hall, church or house that’s on the list of historical places. If you want to shoot photos indoors, make sure to call ahead and ask about their policy. I worked at a museum that did not allow walk-in wedding photos (and sad couples were chased away quite often).

Pumpkin Patch. Having a fall wedding? Incorporate the sights of the season by taking some wedding photos at a pumpkin patch. An apple orchard is another great idea along the same lines. Also, try to find some beautiful fall foliage that will add a pop of color to your photos.

City Space. A bustling backdrop creates a very unique wedding photo opportunity. Look for a busy space like a train station or just outside bustling buildings. Seeing all the hustling people behind the stoic couple gives the impression they’re the only two people in the world, and offers a unique way to capture some of your hometown in your wedding photos.
