November 12th is National Blanket Day! National Blanket Day is a relatively new holiday, with a very important cause/message. National Blanket Day was created in 2015 by a homeless man, who said all he wished for during Thanksgiving was to spend time helping his homeless family. He started the trend of handing out free blankets to other homeless people, along with some hot chocolate. He also encourages others around the world to do the same thing on November 12th.

Gifting a photo blanket to someone in need is a great way to celebrate National Blanket Day. You can certainly ask homeless shelters what kind of photo blankets you can donate. Simple blankets do a lot to help the homeless. Blankets provide warmth and shelter to the homeless, and they can help with the anxiety that comes with living on the streets. A photo blanket with a happy message would do wonders to help the homeless stay warm this winter.

You can also gift a photo blanket to someone else in need for National Blanket Day. A pet photo blanket can be given to an animal shelter, which will use the blankets to help care for the dogs, cats and other animals that they are keeping. Pet shelters need blankets for warmth, cleaning and bedding the animals.

Blankets can also be given to churches, who will use them for various causes. Domestic violence shelters can also use comforting photo blankets that can be used to help with the anxiety of the victims. Some shelters don’t give out addresses, however you can find a way to contact them and figure out a meeting place to drop off the blankets.

Did you know that hospitals also need blankets? Children’s hospitals especially use blankets for sick children. A happy photo blanket with cartoons printed would be a wonderful gift for a child in need. Hospitals also use donated blankets that are custom woven to wrap newborns. Nursing homes will also welcome blankets that they can give to the elderly in their care.
