Understanding Chiropractic Care and When You May Want to Visit a Chiropractor

by Dr. Jae Yoon Lee Chiropractor

So you've hurt your lower back or have tension headaches and can’t move your head.

What do you do?

Both of these complaints are related to your musculoskeletal system and guess what - they may be able to be helped by chiropractic care.

In this article I discuss what chiropractic care is and how it may help you.

What’s a chiropractor?

A chiropractor, or Doctor of Chiropractic, is a healthcare professional focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders related to the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine.

We like to focus on your body's ability to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery, through ‘hands-on’ treatment, exercise and movement.

Chiropractors use a variety of techniques, but we are particularly known for the chiropractic adjustment.

You can become a Doctor of Chiropractic by completing an undergraduate science/chiropractic degree and then followed with a Masters of Chiropractic

What’s a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is the main form of treatment used by chiropractors. It is a ‘hands-on’ approach to health, and generally involves a targeting ‘push’ onto a stuck joint,

More specifically, it is the use of a sudden, controlled force to a spinal joint. The aim is to relieve pain, improve spinal motion and improve your body's physical function.

How can chiropractic help you?

One of the core benefits of chiropractic care is its effectiveness in treating back and neck pain. Unlike traditional medical treatments that often focus on symptoms, chiropractic care seeks to treat the underlying causes of pain.

Through spinal adjustments, we can restore proper alignment, reduce pressure on the nervous system, and improve mobility.

Many of my patients report significant relief from back and neck discomfort, enabling them to return to their daily activities without relying on pain medication.

Commonly helped conditions include:

  • Lower back pain

  • Neck pain

  • Tension headaches and migraines

  • Posture problems

  • Stuck joints

  • Muscular tension

  • Sciatica

  • Scoliosis

  • Some sports injuries.

In addition to chiropractic adjustments, you may also receive lifestyle and nutritional advice to support you in your journey out of pain and into recovery. Why not check out your local chiropractic clinic to see how they may help you?

It's important to note that chiropractic care is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Every individual's body is unique, and so are their health challenges.

As a chiropractor, I spend time with each patient to understand their specific health concerns, medical history, and lifestyle factors. This thorough assessment ensures that the chiropractic care plan is tailored to meet their individual needs, offering the most effective treatment and guidance for their specific situation.

Chiropractic care is suitable for people of all ages and can be a valuable part of anyone's health care program, especially for addressing a range of musculoskeletal symptoms.

Whether you're dealing with acute pain from a recent injury or chronic discomfort due to age-related changes, chiropractic care may offer relief and support your body's natural healing abilities.
