green buildings is no longer absolutely new to Kolkata. Green buildings have
been in Kolkata for quite some time now. But, off late, it has been seen that
the popularity of green homes and buildings are going up the charts. It has
been seen that real estate developers are coming up with green buildings and
incorporating various facilities and mechanisms, which are required to ensure
that the buildings are eco-friendly in nature.
For example, real
estate buildings which are coming up in various parts of Kolkata, have high
energy efficient standards. Some of the buildings are also being built with
waste water recycling mechanisms. These are the systems which would keep the
environment clean and pollution free. For example, through the waste water
recycling system, the waste water will be recycled and reused for the
maintenance of building as as well gardening purposes.

Green homes around the city are also coming up with organic waste converter
systems. In an attempt to ensure sustainability, real estate developers are
ensuring that these systems are being incorporated in the condo buildings.
Some of the green
buildings of Kolkata also have carbon-dioxide monitoring sensors. These are
the sensors which ensure the maintenance of air quality inside homes. Some of
the housing estates in the city are also coming up with rainwater harvesting
systems and humidification control mechanisms. Apart from these, energy saving
equipment are also being incorporated in green homes to ensure a decrease in
heat load.
The incorporation
of these green measures were not really seen in the residential sector
previously. It was only and primarily found in the corporate sector.
Multi-national companies in India used to incorporate these systems earlier.
Due to increased expense, these eco-friendly measures were mostly taken up by
corporate houses. But, now an increased awareness about the importance of
environment-friendly measures have brought this concept into the residential
sector as well. In fact, there are many green homes in Kolkata which are putting
a severe check on sewage system, paint, garbage disposal, light fixtures, water
quality, and more, so as to keep the environment clean.

of the social responsibility nowadays. Green buildings are becoming synonymous
