The UK consists of four states, namely the Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. Its capital city London is the city of dreams, art, culture, economy and entertainment. The English country is the eleventh largest country in Europe and the 21st most populated nation in the world.

It is among one of those few countries in the world that still has Constitutional Monarch, and since 1952, Queen Elizabeth II is the existing monarch. It is a well developed country, and on the basis of its GDP, it has the fifth largest economy in the world. At present, globally, its Human Development Index (HDI) is ranked 14th. During the 18th and 19th century, the country had emerged as the world’s first leading power.

Due to the presence of large number of literate and innovative people, the UK has made a commendable contribution towards the world’s economy, especially into the technical field. Perhaps, one thing that has spread to every corner of the world is its language, i.e., English, which today is the world’s most spoken language.

Population

As per the latest information, the UK population is more than 64 million that is equivalent to the world’s 0.88% population. It is expected that in next five years, it will grow to approximately to 74 million.

Officially, people in the nation speak English. The official statement released from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) says the increase in population is a result of high immigration rate and an increase in the birth rate.

By looking at the current trend, it is expected that by the end of 2030, in terms of population, the UK will overtake several other big countries, like France and Germany.

The country is ethnically diverse as people from almost every corner of the world has migrated, and made it their second home.  Due to its unique culture, you get to eat food from far off corners off the world.

Geography

The country came into origin in the 10th century during the rule of Anglo –Saxon King Athelstan. The Sovereign State is located in north western coast of continental Europe. In terms of land size, its total area is 241,930 sq km. It occupies the Island of Great Britain, major chunk of British Isles Archipelago. The north – eastern side of Ireland consists of many small islands. England is the largest unit followed by Scotland. Almost 81% of the total population lives in urban area.
