Ubisoft delays Rainbow Six Quarantine and Watch Dogs: Legion

Ubisoft shook the fans recently by announcing the shift in its short-term priorities. The decision resulted in delay of three major gaming franchises, namely Rainbow Six Quarantine, Watch Dogs Legion, and Gods and Monsters. All the mentioned games are postponed to the next fiscal year, which will start from April 1, 2020, and extends to March 31, 2021.

The primary reason for the delay is stated to be the alleged optimization of the titles for consoles. Ubisoft expects to face some hefty loss as it has pushed its three major games for the next year. However, things are not all bad as it will undoubtedly recover the amount in the coming year.

Rainbow Six is a gaming franchise based on the novel by Tom Clancy in which he depicts a fictional counter-terrorist unit named Rainbow. The franchise has seen massive success in the FPS genre and is considered one of the best released games in recent times.

The most recent major Ubisoft release was Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, which despite the striking previews and decent anticipation, failed to hit the desired mark. The three games were looking to fill up the hole of expectations left by Ghost Recon, but it seems like the fans have to wait for them.

The delay for Rainbow Six and Watch Dogs is not unique as Sony also delayed its The Last of Us Part 2. The Naughty Dog production is delayed three months further and will now premiere on May 29, 2020.

Gods and Monsters is told to be an action-thriller game with a pinch of cartoony animation. The Greek mythology-based game has the world-renowned makers of Assassin Creed Odyssey working on it. Gods and Monsters was expected to release on March 6, 2020, but seeing as it falls in the current fiscal year, we will have to wait a bit more for it.

Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot took the charge to explain the reasoning behind the major delays. He stated that, while each of the delayed games has infinite potential and strong recognition, the team still needs to develop them to ensure that they become the perfect embodiment of company’s goals. The team needs to modify the games more to make sure that the gamers get optimized experience and they do not wish to leave any room for dissatisfaction.

Yves acknowledged that Ghost Recon’s performance on the market is disheartening, and the decision to delay the much-awaited games will affect their revenues even more. Despite all this, they aim to compensate for it by providing an optimized experience in the upcoming games. Gamers all around the world have their fingers crossed as they hope the games turn out to be as good as their previews.
