Surrogacy is a process that gives hope to thousands around the world who haven’t been able to realize their dreams of parenthood. There are two ways of going about it and we will see both here. But before we proceed, please understand that in both cases which we are about to describe below, the fertilized egg must be placed in the uterus of the surrogate mother for the process to be successful. And there are basically two approaches to that, let’s start.

Traditional surrogacy
In this process, the surrogate mother offers two things: her egg and her uterus. First, the egg and sperm from the biological father is united and placed in the uterus of the surrogate mother where fertilization takes place naturally. It is known as intrauterine insemination. This approach is taken when the female in a couple is unable to produce eggs of her own.

In this case the surrogate is also the biological mother of the child. This was usually the norm of doing things for decades until recently when invitro-fertilization became common.

Gestational Surrogacy
In this approach, egg from the biological mother and sperm from the biological father is fertilized in a laboratory through invitro-fertilization and the fertilized egg is then placed in the uterus of the surrogate mother for development and gestation. The surrogate mother will carry the baby until it is ready for delivery.

This approach is appropriate when the biological mother has some physical complication which prevents her from conceiving. It must be noted that in this case, the surrogate is not the biological mother of the baby.

Is one type better than the other?

Both types of surrogacy are completely safe and is as risky as undertaking normal biological pregnancy. However success of the process and satisfaction depend on a number of factors and the couple should approach the best surrogacy clinic in Delhi that guarantees thorough screening of several possible candidates for the surrogate mother. Surrogacy clinics do not reveal the identity of the surrogate mothers for privacy reasons, however you can specify certain aspects you want in the surrogate mother and the clinic will take care of it for you.

How much does the process cost?
Costs of undertaking the surrogacy route has been on the rise. A general estimate today (Dec 2016) would be $35,000 or 24 Lacs in Indian currency. There is a distinct upward rise in the cost of surrogacy in the last several years, and it would be safe to assume that the cost will only increase. However, please reach out to as many clinics you can and choose the best surrogacy clinic in Delhi.
