There are, in general, two home care classes: "professionals" and "personal." These terms come from government programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid, and private insurance companies. Polish home service is New York is provided by a nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, or social worker. Doctors prescribe professional services when they determine that it is medically necessary. If your family member needs professional care, you may also qualify for some type of personal care. A home health aide provides personal care or workers called home aides, personal caregivers, or helpers. The companions and the services of house helpers, a third class, provide non-medical care.

Who provides home care services?

Home health agency provides home care services. Between them:

Nurses: carry out many important medical tasks. They change the dressings and clean the wound for patients who have just had surgery. They keep records of blood pressure and other vital signs, observe changes in the patient's condition, and check the patient's medication. They also develop a care plan. While the federal government has guidelines for the training of home health aides, each state has its education and certification system for home health aides. For a detailed list by state of training hours, see PHI. Most states have no requirement for personal caregivers.

Physical therapists: They assist the human being in the making stronger. They teach the patient to perform some strengthening and flexibility exercises. The PT can help you decide if your family member needs special equipment, such as grab bars and railings. They can also arrange for someone to install them. Speech therapists work with language skills, such as helping a person recover from a stroke to speak again.

Occupational Therapists (OT): Help people relearn skills such as feeding and dressing alone. They show the person who is weak or disabled how to get out of bed and reach a chair. Social workers help you apply for benefits and offer advice on services such as an adult day centre or a respite (free time for family caregivers). They can also talk with you about your concerns and other problems.

Many people believe that personal care does not require many skills. That is not like that. Some tasks can be very difficult, such as bathing a person with dementia or moving (moving) a very heavy patient. Home helpers can assist your family member with light household chores, laundry, small food purchases and food preparation, and other household chores that would allow your family member to remain at home. The house helper does not perform the heaviest tasks and complete cleaning of the home in general.
