Types of Dental Implants

by Laleh Rahmani Dental office
Dental implants are a suitable and permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. After the dentist places the dental implant inside the jawbone, the jawbone is welded to the implant by ossifying bone-forming cells on the implant's surface. The welding process usually takes 3 to 4 months, then the crown and dental veneer are made and placed on the base.

1. Intra-bone implants: This category is the most famous type of dental implant in the form of a screw placed inside the bone.

2. Subperiosteal implants: are used in cases where there has been severe erosion of the mandibular bone, and it is in the form of a structure placed on the mandible and under the gums. And then the prosthetic design is mounted on it.

3. Zygomatic implants: in severe bone loss of the upper jaw, a metal structure is screwed to the cheekbone.

The last two types of implants are not used much nowadays due to various techniques of bone grafting for jaw bone reconstruction.

If only one tooth is missing and we only need one implant.
Front tooth implant

What is a dental implant?
This is even though the dental implant not only does not damage the adjacent teeth but also prevents bone loss due to the stimulation of the bone in the edentulous area. The cost of a front tooth implant is equivalent to any other tooth implant, and there is no difference.

A bridge can fill this toothless space, except for implants. In this treatment, it is necessary to grind the teeth adjacent to the toothless area to replace the tooth. The weak point of this treatment is damage to two healthy teeth, which also leads to their decay. In addition, due to the lack of stimulation of the bone, the gradual degeneration of the bone also occurs.

If several teeth are missing
A removable prosthesis is usually used to fill this type of toothless area. Removable prostheses are placed around the teeth with hooks. In this treatment, even though there is no need to trim the adjacent teeth, the weight and pressure of the bases on the base teeth lead to loosening of the adjacent teeth, resulting in tooth decay.

In this case, planting an implant and maintaining the beauty of the appearance makes it possible to prevent damage to the healthy teeth and jawbone.

In this case, fully movable prostheses are usually used. Complete removable prostheses cause many problems for the patient, such as looseness of the prosthesis in the mouth, difficulty speaking, etc. However, with dental implants, comfort and beauty can be restored to the patient. Advantages of dental implants
While the treatment is expensive, benefits such as comfort, high resistance, practicality, restoration of natural chewing ability, and extraordinary beauty make patients more satisfied with fixed bridges or removable prostheses. In case of complete hygiene, these teeth will be permanent (Lifetime).
With implant treatment, other teeth are not victims of replacing lost teeth.
The base of the implant is placed inside the bone like the root of the tooth, and the jawbone is not eroded due to the support provided by the implant. Therefore, the shape of the face is less subject to changes due to tooth loss.
Usually, the lifespan of a dental implant is longer than other alternative treatments, and if the implant is lost, it is possible to replace it again.

How long does a dental implant last?
A dental implant is a treatment that requires time and patience. As it was said, we need about three months from putting the fixture (implant) in the patient's bone until we can make a veneer for our client. Proper treatment is nothing but this path.
