One of the primary goals of Stem Cell Treatment is to assuage suffering associated with several fatal and degenerative disorders and diseases. Nowadays, many stem cell centers are offering treatments based on stem cells, but it is not yet very popular among the masses because many of these treatments are still in the experimental phase, and safety and viability of these treatments is yet to be established. However, many tests have been carried out to test the safety and feasibility of such treatments, and majority of them have shown positive result, giving a new direction to the development of regenerative medicine.

With the aid of modern technology, researchers expect to use Stem Cell Treatment for treating spinal cord injuries, damage to muscles, neural tissue damage, cardiac disorders, and even cancer. Researchers mainly use two kinds of stem cells for testing Stem Cell Therapy. These include embryonic cells, and matured stem cells or stomatic cells. They also produce other kinds of cells in lab known as pluripotent cells. These are produced by reprogramming matured cells in lab conditions and these are akin to embryonic cells. Induced pluripotent cells are attracting attention world over because these act like embryonic cells, and can help vastly in drug development and research of diseases.

Embryonic stem cells

When it comes to the major types of stem cells used in Stem Cell Treatment, then embryonic cells does tops the chart, as these have the ability of producing specialized tissues and cells of human body. Presently, researchers have developed embryonic cells, which matches strict quality standards and have been allowed to be used in clinical trials of Stem Cell Therapy. Researchers are currently using these cells to test treatment for curing blindness that occurs because of macular degeneration associated with aging. Some researchers are using these cells for making specialized cells for people suffering from eye diseases.

Skin and blood cells

Cells derived from blood and skin is another variety of stem cells being used in Stem Cell Therapy. Millions of people benefit from stem cells derived from bone marrow, but there is also a problem of patient’s own immune system attacking the tissues. On the other hand, skin cells are used widely to treat burn patients. Treatments using skin cells are in the budding stage only, and a lot of research is still required to develop this kind of treatment based on skin cells.

Cord cells for treatment of children

Another major type of stem cells includes the cells extracted from umbilical cord following baby birth. These cells are preserved and can be used for treating children suffering from blood disorder or cancer and even genetic blood diseases such as Fnconi Anaemia. The main advantage that these kinds of cells enjoy over cells extracted from bone marrow, is that cells derived from umbilical cord have fewer chances of being rejected by the patient’s immune system. Thus, the immune response plays a major role in Stem Cell Treatment using cells taken from umbilical cord. Such cells have been proved effective for treating children as compared to adults, but some adults have shown promising result after undergoing double cord transplantation.
