Types of barricades for events

by Gustavo Marques Journalist

Every event is different, which means the organization must also be.

Contrary to what many people think, there is no recipe for organizing an event. There is nothing ready before a show or presentation, so the organization needs to adapt to the needs of the public to generate a safe moment where everyone can make the most of it. But in order for this to happen, it is necessary to understand the processes of holding an event, and the main one is security. So let's talk about organization with the purchase or rental of barricades.

Barricades are important for two reasons: the first one is that it helps with organization. Barricades separate the public and help create corridors for free circulation. They are great pieces for those who organize events and show outdoors or in a very large space such as football stadiums. The second reason is that the barricades hold the public and the artists, serving as a barrier to protect who is performing and who is watching.

But as it was discussed at the beginning of the article, there is no ready-made recipe on how to prepare an event, so it is not possible to use the same scheme or barricades in every presentation. There are differences between the barricades because each one of them has its peculiarities, and if you are organizing an event or going to attend a presentation, keep an eye out for our tips to know if you are really safe and if the event team had a good preparation.

Grids

Grids are the most popular in concerts that take place in very large spaces. They are usually used in presentations with a lot of people. We are talking here about something close to the number of fans of Beyoncé and Lady Gaga — artists who have many admirers and need a place like a football stadium to be able to allocate everyone. Grids are the solution for those who want a safe and easily accessible option because they are very easy to find.

Small walls

Small walls normally are at waist height and generate a more restricted access between people. That's because they do not have spacing like grids, being joined and closed, so it is not possible to pass anything between them, and jumping this kind of barricade is more difficult.

This type of protection can also be used in large shows or when the artist chooses to have more privacy and remain more isolated from the public, but they are also great options for those who want to set up an improvised aisle at a wedding or baptism.

Cones

Cones are the most basic example of a barricade. They are usually used for signage, but can also occupy barricade space. Cones should not be used at concerts, but only at small events because they do not have the containment power of the first two barricades we described in the article. Cones can be easily dodged, so they should be used at an event or presentation that is very controlled and the number of guests is small.

Now that you understand more about organizing events and how each type of barricade is chosen according to the needs of the public or who is organizing it, you can better analyze the places you frequent and have more critical sense when knowing if a show is safe or not. It is possible to discover this right by the entrance where the barricades are.

But if your case is that you want to organize an event, then you understand better now how barricades can help you and your guests, so you will have more criteria when buying or renting these pieces that not only serve for security, but also to maintain a safe and balanced environment for all.
