Enzymatic Process

The research on the Enzymatic Biodiesel process production has increased significantly in recent years, because of the need for an alternative fuel which provides low toxicity, biodegradability, and renewability. Animal fats, Plant oils, waste products and microalgal oils such as animal rendering, cooking oils and fish processing waste have been used as feedstock for biodiesel production. In order to design environmentally and economically sustainable biodiesel production process, a proper understanding of the factors affecting and their relative factor is very important.

In biodiesel production technology a new transesterification process has been developed. This process consists of two reactors one is a primary reactor and another one is a trim reactor. Before fed into the primary reactor the oil, inert solvent and alcohol reactant are mixed well with recycled biodiesel. The biodiesel reactor can have CSTR or packed bed design. The reactor outlet and an evaporator can connect, where inert solvent, the unreacted alcohol, and water are evaporated. After biodiesel, unreacted oil, and glycerol are then separated into two layers. Crude biodiesel in the upper layer and crude glycerol in the lower layer is which contains a trace amount of alcohol and solvent.

Biodiesel benefits

The role of the biodiesel industry is not to replace petroleum diesel, but also to create a balanced energy policy. Biodiesel is one of the alternative fuels designed to extend the usefulness of petroleum, and the cleanliness and longevity of diesel engines. The ultimate goal is to contribute to building a very stronger, more self-sufficient community by way of a community-based biodiesel production model. A community-based biodiesel distribution technology benefits local economies, from the farmers growing the feedstock to local businesses producing and distributing the fuel to all consumers. The money stays in the community while decreases the impact on the local environment and increasing energy security.

Conversion of Waste Brown Grease to Biodiesel

Hydrocarbon-based fuels obtain from renewable, non-food carbon sources act as a promising alternative to petroleum delivered fuels and are able to reduce the greenhouse gas emulsion. A sustainable bio fuel technology should utilize large renewable biomass feedstock, particularly wastes, for which industries carry the huge amount of disposal. Fuel production and power generation from waste recovery is a stable and potentially profitable option to explore, addressing current economic challenges of waste management and energy independence. A potentially interesting candidate in this section is brown grease. Brown grease Biodiesel Plant has a higher level of contamination, when compared to yellow grease, and cannot be used as fertilizer or animal feedstock.

From a wastewater management approach, any activities that compromise the disrupt routine operations or the effluent water quality are unacceptable. Therefore, determine the impacts on the wastewater treatment plant operations and the advantage of colocation of a brown grease recovery unit were also very essential for this part of the demonstration. A number of potential impacts on the wastewater treatment facility and related operations are identified during project development.
