Two Fabric DIYs for Party Tables

by John Smith Owner
Fabric is such an important décor element for your party tables. You can use table and chair covers to make them look more put together, or you can use fabric to make table squares and runners for added depth and dimension. These table squares and runners will be where you set your name cards, table numbers, centrepieces and other décor elements on. You can use tables squares for square and circular tables, while you can use table runners for rectangular tables.

To make table squares and runners, grab the materials and follow the steps below:

Fabric table squares

Materials:

Fabric roll from Chair Cover Depot

Scissors

Ruler or measuring tape

Needle and thread or sewing machine

Fabric chalk

Pins

Instructions:

1. Draw a square on your fabric square using your ruler or measuring tape and fabric chalk. The dimensions of the square will depend on the size of your tables. Make sure that you allot a half an inch on each side of the square for the seams.

2. Cut the square using your scissors.

3. With the good side of the square facing down, fold the seams towards the centre of the square and hold them in place using your pins. You might have to cut corners, so they don’t overlap and look weird.

4. Using a needle or thread or your sewing machine, sew the seams. After sewing all four sides, you now have a fabric table square! Repeat these steps until you’ve made fabric table squares for all of your tables.

Fabric table runner

Materials:

Fabric roll from Chair Cover Depot

Scissors

Ruler or measuring tape

Needle and thread or sewing machine

Fabric chalk

Pins

Instructions:

1. Measure your table using a ruler. The width of your table runner should be at most a third of your table’s width, while it’s length depends on how you want it to look. You can let it hang off the sides and touch the floor, or you can make it the same length as the length of the table. No matter how you want, it to look, measure the dimensions on your fabric roll and mark it using fabric chalk. Make sure that you allot a half an inch on each side of the runner for the seams.

2. Cut the fabric using your scissors.

3. With the good side of the table runner facing down, fold the seams and hold them in place using your pins. You might have to cut the corners, so they don’t overlap and look weird.

4. Using a needle or thread or your sewing machine, sew the seams. After sewing all four sides, you now have a fabric table runner! Repeat these steps until you’ve made fabric table runners for all of your tables.

Aside from table squares and runners, the fabric can also be used for napkins, backdrops, and decorative items such as fabric flowers. You can see that there are a lot of creative uses for fabric, so don’t be afraid to try new things and test them out. Be creative, and you’ll be surprised!
