When you are looking to run a triathlon whether you are training to compete in just one, or you want to become a serious competitor, you need to put some thought into your strategy. Two key areas you need to get right is your choice of a training plan and having well maintained and chosen equipment that includes a professional bike fit.

Choosing a solid triathlon training plan

Your success is going to rely heavily on how good your triathlon training plans are. You need to have plans for what workouts you are doing and when you are doing them. You need to work out training plans for each aspect of the triathlon as well as the transitions, it needs to have a real focus. The best way to do that is to get a plan from someone experienced who knows what they are talking about. Just thinking you will cycle a bit one day, swim another, and run another is not enough. You might finish the race of course, but with a focused plan you can push yourself to do more than just finish.

A good set of plans will have a mix of low heart rate training, high-intensity training and help you build on your endurance as well as your speed. When you look online there is a large selection of plans to choose from. Should you choose to go this route to find the best triathlon training plans make sure you find ones that are suited to the length of race you are competing. There are sprint triathlons, Olympic triathlons, half ironmans and ironmans. Some are free, some you might have to pay for. 

Another option is to find a coach or trainer with real experience who will come up with personal training plans suited to your fitness, skill, commitment level and race. You will pay more for this but if you are prepared to invest in training, you will see much better results. A plan designed directly for you is going to be easier to follow, there is no need for you to have to make adjustments to force a plan found online to suit your needs.

The important of equipment maintenance and upgrades

It is essential to have the equipment you need for competing in triathlons. A swimsuit or wet-suit designed for triathlons, goggles, cap, triathlon shoes. A triathlon bike that when you buy you get a bike fit for because when a bike is adjusted to best suit your build and needs, it will be more comfortable to ride, you will have fewer injuries and you will perform better. You will also need a cycle helmet. It is also important you maintain everything well and learn how to do certain simple bike fixes and maintenance jobs. The last thing you want is for something to break or shift as you cycle in a race because it was not looked after properly, and then you are unable to fix it.
