Turning The Basement Into an Extra Room
If there is one place of the house that serves almost no purpose in the house, then this will undoubtedly be the basement. Most people use the basement only to store stuff they no longer need there but still hold on to it as if they are going to find some purpose for it later on which, let's face it, is very unlikely. Others don't even use the basement under their house at all and instead keep it empty all the time. The lower floor of the house, however, holds great potential if you know how to use it like turning the basement into an extra room into several steps
1. Few Renovations
2. Furnishing
After the renovations are done you may proceed with the next step of the turning the basement into extra quarters by putting in furniture. Depending on what your plans are for the basement you can decide to put different types of furniture and turn into whatever you like most. For example if you want to make a game room for your children to play in the you might put as little furniture as you like and let the big space empty in which they can play free without disturbing anyone. Installing a large flat TV on the wall is also a good idea, especially if your children enjoy playing video games. Alternatively, you can make the room just for yourself by turning the basement into your private study or office where you can get work done in a peace and serene surroundings. Or maybe you would like to make a room for the whole family where you can all spend some time together watching TV or playing family games. Depending on your choice for the basement should be furnished with the appropriate types of furniture for its complete make-over.
3. Extra Touches
Even looking like this the basement isn't completely turned into a proper room yet. In order to achieve that you should add few extra touches that will make turn the basement into living quarters. You should either paint the walls with warm colours to make it look more brighter or install colourful wallpapers on the wall. Attaching few pictures and frames here and there on the walls is also a nice touch. Putting curtains and drapes on the windows in the basement if there are would make the room even cozier looking and let's not forget few plants in the corners. Just keep in mind that you cannot put any plant in the house that thrive into darker areas.
Eventually after you are done with the extra touches you would have turn the basement from an ordinary useless space into an extra room which you can enjoy and use.
