by PC Smart Care PC Smart Care

Without internet, computer hardly is of any use. Internet shoots the significance of computer upto three times as it brings the world’s information to your fingertips. Router is an important component used for internet connection. It joins multiple internet connections together. Linksys is one company which manufactures routers which are famous for its fast speed.

Nothing is more annoying than a lousy internet connection. We feel handicapped if the router is not working properly. Troubleshooting a router is a tough task which every internet user could have experienced at least once.

Sadly, there is no permanent solution to fix Linksys router issues. The most basic solution that many Linksys support suggest is to turn off the computer, unplug the modem and router and wait for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, plug the modem and router and start the computer. Push the reset button in the center of Linksys console or at the bottom of router. Majority of times, the router issues gets solved.

If the above solution does not work, here are the other possible solutions suggested by Linksys support for some common problem faced by user:

Dropped Internet Connection:

There can be many reasons of poor internet connection. Below are the some ways to solve it:

  • Place your router in open are so that the radio waves can communicate properly.
  • Wireless devices or computer should not be placed right next to router. Also the maximum distance between device and router should be less than 3 meters.
  • If you are having connection problem even after connecting computer directly to modem using Ethernet cable, then there is ISP problem. Contact your internet service provider for the same.
  • Make sure your wireless security mode on the web-based setup page is set to WPA2 personal.
  • Update your router’s firmware

Lethargic Download Speed

Sometimes, our internet is working properly, still we experience very slow download speed than usual. Check for the following resolution if you are experience sluggish download speed.

  • Disable IPv6 from your Network and Sharing Center in your Control Panel. Select Change adapter setting and disable IPv6.
  • Recheck if the other computer has the same download speed.
  • Upgrade router’s firmware.
  • Press the reset button for 10 seconds.

Slow Upload Speed

If your Linksys Router upload speed is slow, there may be a need to control the priority of your network traffic so that the data transfer is faster. This can be done by setting router’s Quality of Service (QoS).

Not able to access router’s web-based set up page

Router’s web-based set up page can be accessed by the following steps:

  • Enter router’s default IP address ‘192.168.1.1’ on your web browser’s address bar.
  • Leave the username blank and write ‘admin’ in the password option.

If you are still unable to access the web-based setup page, there may be numerous reasons like router’s IP address or password has been changed or there is no network connection or the firewall may be blocking the connection.

Even after the above solutions, there are still issues with your Linksys router then you need to contact Linksys support so that their experienced technicians may look upon the problem.
