1.     About Tricot Fabric

 

The warp knitting machine is similar to the common weaving machine, all yarns rolled around the beam which is located at both rear and top areas, feed into the knitting area at the same time. In the process of joint, each yarn is controlled by a single needle. However, guide bars control the placement of the yarn, and the particular needle forming the loop may vary from one interloping action to the next. Jacquard system can be used to control the needles in order to produce complicated tricot jacquard fabric. In view of production process, yarn supplying place, and characteristics of mutual joint between paralleled yarns, we call it warp knitting machine.

Basically, warping is a process system to produce flat fabric, features in straight slide, high speed and mass production. Warp knitted fabric can be classified according to the equipment and fabric features, in which the main tricot types are tricot, Rachel, Milanese, and Simplex. The most common types are tricot fabric and Rachel fabric.

Warp knit fabrics have certain elongation and stretch ability, although it may be less than weft knit fabric. The factors to affect the properties of tricot fabric are: fabric structure, the tightness of the knitting (the tighter the knit, the lower the amount of stretch); finishing techniques, which can impart good dimensional stability; gage (number of needles per unit of width), and yarns type (eg. core -spun stretch yarns, complex yarns with little or no stretch, single or ply yarns of high dimensional stability)

2.   Tricot Fabric Types

 

From the finished fabric products, tricot fabric can be divided into: A. Tricot fabric outer clothing; B. Tricot fabric under clothing.

A. Tricot fabric outer clothing

The most popular tricot fabric for outer clothing is polyester tricot fabric. Since 1980s, it has great popularity, with development, it has been well developed into the following different types.

a. Imitation leather tricot fabric for outer clothing

Suede leather tricot fabric, is one type of polyester tricot fabric features in short and dense suede, fine down. The appearance looks like suede leather, is a good choice for outer clothing.

With the decadency of true leather clothing, imitation leather coating fabric becomes popular. The reason may be of low price, tough feature, and casual designed bright color appearance. The most common fabric is polyester.

b. Mesh tricot fabric and jacquard fabric, is important fashion fabric because of the patterns formed and elasticity by adding elastic fiber. In detail, there are different types:

Lace tricot fabric

Burnout tricot fabric, mixed with polyester and cotton or manmade silk, can be used as women’ garment and decorative fabric

c. Jacquard fabric for outer clothing, from special patterns through the jacquard property of Jacquard machine.

3. Common Tricot Fabric

 

The common materials for tricot fabric are polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene, mixed with cotton, wool, silk, linen and other synthetic materials.

A. Polyester tricot fabric

It’s made of low stretch yarn with the same gram or different grams. The common texture is rayon locknut texture. Through dyeing process, it becomes plain fabric. The patterns vary in plain invisible line and check, plain visible line and check.

Polyester tricot fabric is bright in color, tough and straight in the surface, and can be divided into thick, medium and lightweight tricot fabric. Lightweight tricot fabric is mainly used for shirts and skirts. Medium and thick polyester fabric are used for overcoat, wind coat, suit and trousers.

B. Tricot brushed fabric

It’s mainly made of Helen nylon. Adopting chain stitch and changing velvet texture to warping the tricot brushed fabric. Through brushing process, its appearance looks like woolen cloth, rich in surface, tight and fitting, soft and comfortable hand feeling, good drape, easy to be washed and dried, but in use it’s easier for electrostatic and dust adherence. Tricot brushed fabric are mainly used for overcoat, wind coat and trousers for winter season.

C. Mesh tricot fabric

It’s mainly made of synthetic fiber, regenerated fiber or natural fiber. Through changing warping, it can form different shapes on the surface, such as square, round, rhombic, hexagonal, and corrugated mesh. Mesh tricot fabric features in lightweight, stretch, breathable, silky and soft hand feeling, mainly used as shirts fabric for summer season.

D. Warp knitted velvet fabric

Regenerated fiber, synthetic fiber or natural fiber as backing yarn, acrylic fiber as wool yarn, adopting Rachel warp knitting machine, it becomes a double woven fabric, again through cutting and finishing machine, it becomes two pieces of single velvet fabric. According to the velvet surface, it can be classified into plain velveteen, corded velveteen, and yarn-dyed embossed velvet. Warp knitted velvet fabric features in dense downy, soft, elastic, warm keeping rich and thick hand feeling, mainly used for winter garments and children clothing.

E. Tricot terry fabric

Synthetic fiber as background yarn, cotton, silk or blended yarn as filling yarn, natural fiber, regenerated fiber or synthetic fiber as terry yarn, through terry texture to produce single-sided or double-sided terry fabric.

Terry fabric is tough, elastic, warm keeping and stable, mainly used for jersey, t-shirt, pajamas and children clothes.

F. Jacquard fabric

Jacquard fabric features in square hand feeling, various clear patterns, good drape and dimensional, mainly used for women garments, underwear and skirts.
