Video editing is not as simple as merge the useful clips and abandon the useless clips. The purpose of editing is highlighting the subject by composing different clips. The editing is challenging and interesting work. Different editors with the same materials will get into different works. Even the meaning they want to display can be totally opposite.

Just like watching a movie, you feel that the process is smooth. Such editing is the ideal editing. Cut off the unwanted parts will produce incoherent images. The art of editing is removing the trace and making the movie smoothly.

The simplest solution is increasing the difference of size between the front lens and subsequent lens. Do not make the same size image to be together. This way can let discontinuous and unpleasant feeling go. Use the biggest difference and continuous lens let the viewer feel continuity and smooth.

If sometime you must use the continuous image, you can bridge out between the front lens and the follow-up Lens. That means insert a quite different picture in the two lenses. It is just like the implications of literally.
      
There are many issues that must be considered, one of which is judging from the visual characteristics of the human. If you have sufficient knowledge of the editing, it will be great help for shooting. With editing experience, you will find you need choose different size and position to take the subject during the shooting. Relationship between the amount of information and the length of the screen.

The length of time and the fluency of the screen are related. If the time of every lens is same, rhythm is same, the viewer will feel tedious. If change the length of the continuous screen, there will be a strong sense of rhythm, so that the viewer can appreciate. The suitable length is the best length.
If you take this question to ask editor, they usually give you the answer: the screen can complete their missions is the correct time. For example, we have taken pieces from dusk to night. That should be a picture of the full moon. How long should it last? Two or three seconds is OK. It has express information: evening is coming. If shooting with wide-angle lens, the amount of data is increasing, including the orientation position of the housing, structure, form, and your neighbor's, etc. Of course, two seconds will be enough if you want to shoot the doorplate. But for the whole scene, you may need 3or 5 seconds. The editors’ task is correctly expressing the information with a suitable time.

Practice is the only shortcut. So film editing is important and also helpful for your shooting. Only constant practice and learning can be a good editor.
