Travel from Stansted to Heathrow

I travelled from Dublin to Stansted recently - i needed to get to Heathrow Airport as I had a connecting flight to the States. My fare from Dublin with Ryanair was really great value and was much cheaper than other airlines which I was I opted to travel via Stansted (an airport I had never been to in fact - despite living in Essex!).

Stansted Airport has certainly got busier since it was buolt in 1991 (i remember when it opened as a small regional airport) and now it apparently handles in excess of 24m passengers per years - significant growth mainly due to the budget airline revolution over the past 20 years.

Upon arrival I found Stansted Airport to be a quick airport to disembark and even had time to enjoy a coffee break in Costa Coffee in arrivals. Much welcomed.

Transfer options from the airport are great, especially given that London Stansted is not really in London - 40 mins by train, 1 hour by car, 1 hour 15 by bus/coach. I opted for a minicab that I had pre booked prior to arrival - the best and cheapest way to do it really. the in terminal provider are called 24x7 and look like they offer a great service but when I visited their web pages their prices were considerably more than other local providers not in the airport.

Various coach operators are based at Stansted and include National Express who do offer a good, reliable service to Heathrow but I was concerned that this might take longer then the car.

The train service is excellent as I have used the Liverpool Street line for years but the issue with this is that once in Liverpool Street (City of London) you still need to hike your bags across London to get to Heathrow - too long and tiring for me!

Taxi/minicab is therefore the best option and what a choice their is - maybe for the brave you could use UBER upon arrival but I wanted to be assured that my car was ready at a pre-arranged time when I arrived at Stansted. I opted for Stansted Airport Taxis who are based a few minutes outside of the airport for my taxi from Stansted to Heathrow. What a nice service, cheap and great drivers - we arrived after about 1 hour to a welcoming T5 with 40 mins spare for me to check in for my next journey to the US. A great experience and one I would recommend to save time and money!
