Despite being one of the regional hub of art and literature in Eastern India, it also has made a name for itself for housing one of the country’s biggest Zoological Park. The park is located 15kms away from the main city of Bhubaneswar and you can always book some of the Best Hotels in Bhubaneswar and visit this picturesque property.

Nandankanan Zoological Park was established in 1960 and it was opened to the public in 1979. It is a 400-hectare zoo and botanical garden and became the first zoo in India to join World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) in 2009. It also contains a botanical garden and part of it has been declared a sanctuary.

The zoo is home to about a variety of animal species such as the revered Royal Bengal Tiger. In fact, it is the first zoo in the World to breed the White tiger and Melanistic tiger. Several endangered species such as the Asiatic Lion, Indian pangolin, Mouse Deer and several other species of birds, reptiles and fish have been breeding successfully at Nandankanan Zoological Park. It’s the first zoo where an endangered Ratel was first born in captivity and it’s the only zoo to have an Open-top leopard enclosure.

Now how cool is that?

Nandankanan Zoological Park is just a 45-minute drive away from the airport and the railway station. Tourist cottages inside Nandankanan are available for accommodation, only during day time, on prior reservation from the office of Deputy Director, Nandankanan Zoological Park or you can go for some of the Best Accommodations in Bhubaneswar and pay a visit to this wonderful park with your family and friends.

So, while visiting this picturesque Temple City of India with your family and friends, a visit to this animal paradise is a must.
