KhorVirap

KhorVirap is an Armenian monastery in the Ararat plains of Armenia, approximately 8kms away from the south of Ararat Province. The monastery is a popular tourist attraction and was the site for several theological seminaries and the residence of the Armenian Catholics.  The monastery is notable for its souvenir kiosks, it is surrounded by green pastures, vineyards, and amazing views of Mount Ararat. KhorVirap pilgrimage and monastery site dedicated to Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for 14 years by King Tiridates III. In 1662 the larger chapel was renamed as St Astvatsatsin and today it is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Armenia.

Republic Square

Republic Square or Hraparak is a popular square in Yerevan, Armenia. The square has been divided into 2 sections-the oval roundabout and a trapezoid-shaped section. Republic Square is encompassed by 5 major buildings all of which have been constructed in a neo-classical style with Armenian motifs. The construction of the square started in 1926 and was completed in 1977, it went through many renovations and entitled various name in between like-the Lenin Square for Soviet Leader- Vladimir Lenin. The pre-Sovietsquare was designed by- Boris Mehrabyan in 1906 while the current square was designed by- Alexander Tamanian in his 1924 general plan of Yerevan. The buildings include the History Museum and the National Gallery, the Government House, Armenian Marriott Hotel, and the other two buildings housed the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport and Communication.    

Mount Aragats

Mount Aragats is an isolated four peaked volcano and is one of the highest points in the Armenian Highlands. Its northern summit sits at 4090m above sea level and it is surrounded by the Kasagh River on the east, Shirak plain on the north, Ararat plain on the south, and akhurian River on the west. Several engravings have been discovered include rock paintings that depict human-like figures, animals that could have possibly dated from the 1st millennia BCE. The volcanic hill has played an important role in shaping the country’s history and is one of the most visited destinations in Armenia.
