Top 7 Adventure Focused Books For Adults

by Brit Books Brit Books

A thrilling or unexpected experience is referred to as an adventure. It may be dangerous, thrilling, brave, and exuberant. It can involve things like skydiving, travel, and extreme sports. But that was only a sampling of outdoor activities. On the other hand, adventure can be as simple as watching a thrilling movie, writing an exciting novel, or simply reading an adventure book.

That, for me, is the most exciting adventure of all, where I can let my imagination go wild and follow the book into a world of risk, peril, and uncertainty. So, if you consider yourself a bohemian, traveller, or risk-taking adventurer, I challenge you to read these top 7 adventure novels for adults of all time.

  1. Moby-Dick By Herman Melville

Moby-Dick, assuming you're not a hermit or have spent your entire existence living under a rock, you've undoubtedly heard of Moby-Dick. But, if you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a quick rundown: Moby-Dick is a novel by Herman Melville that marked a turning point in his career since it was hailed as the most outstanding work of all time.

The story is told by Ishmael, a sailor on board with Captain Ahab, who is obsessed with finding the white whale, Moby-Dick, who has seemingly ruined his entire life and now seeks vengeance. The personalities and the descriptions of the exotic settings are masterfully described with a tint of dark humour. If you haven't already done so, I strongly advise you to get a copy of this book right away.

  1. In The Call Of The Wild By Jack London

Buck, the initially domesticated canine, is kidnapped and moved around in the novel and his exploits. The reader is constantly on edge as the narrative takes unpredictable twists with dangers lurking around every corner. The book describes this brave dog's indomitable nature and how he bears adverse conditions and conducts without fear.

  1. Odyssey By Homer

The novel was set around three thousand years ago, yet it is more accurately described as epic poetry than a novel. Homer is a master of literature, poetry, metaphors, and symbolism, among other things. It's based on Poseidon, the ancient Greek sea god, and the difficulties he experiences upon returning home after a twenty-year absence. This poem unravels ancient Greek history and retells stories and legends. If you appreciate poetry, literary compositions, and adventure, this book should be on your reading list.

  1. Into The Wild By Jon Krakauer

This is the first piece of nonfiction on the list. While fiction adventure novels are fun to read, we can't forget about nonfiction because they are the best adventure book series for adults that get you as close as possible to experiencing a real adventure. As a result, I've thrown one of my favourite tragic tales into the wild.

After donating his belongings to charity, a young guy leaves everything behind to live life on his terms and invents his own life in this uplifting narrative. He hitchhikes his way to Alaska, where he intends to become a wanderer. However, the world appears to be too harsh on him, and he only has four months to live out his ambition before passing prematurely. After a few months, a moose hunter discovers his body.

  1. Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson

This novel would have been at the top of my list if I had written this blog post a few years ago, and it is still the most 'valuable' book on my shelf, but I seemed to have grown out of it (only a little). This book was a watershed moment in my childhood for adventure literature, and I'm sure many people can relate.

As the title suggests, this adventure is about a group of guys on a quest for treasure. The one-legged pirate, the talking bird, and the treasure map are all stereotypes, but this doesn't sound cliché at all. It's a classic, in my opinion. A fun read for all ages.

  1. The Hobbit By J. R. R. Tolkien

Fans of 'The Lord of the Rings' will be familiar with this novel. The Hobbit follows the same setup as the author's fantastical universe. The plot centres around Bilbo Baggins, a young hobbit who embarks on an adventure into a world that his fellow hobbits may never see. Fantasy, mystery, and adventure all collide in this story. I would strongly suggest it to everyone who likes mystery and adventure literature.

  1. A Personal Account Of The Mt. Everest Disaster By Jon Krakauer

Krakauer's account of the 1996 disaster is yet another excellent read. It's the story of a massive miscalculation of an impending terrible storm, which resulted in the deaths of five mountain climbers. The mountaineers were making their way up the mountain when they were abruptly struck by horrible weather, putting their lives and limbs in jeopardy. There was no calm, rest, or sense of security throughout this read.
