Punjabi food is known for rich spices and exotic flavour. The food includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The level of spices can vary from minimal to high; but generally it is high. The main feature of this cuisine is that it offers diverse range of dishes. The food was earlier cooked at home only but with growing popularity most of the restaurants started to add it in their food menu.

Today, when people all around the world love to eat Punjabi cuisines, it is served in almost every restaurant in Delhi and other places. The article will include a combination of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods that are among the top five Punjabi foods.

Makki de Roti and Sarso da Saag

It is one of the popular as well as traditional Punjabi dishes; that is cooked in almost every Punjabi home and available at every restaurant which is offering delicious Punjabi food in the menu. Its preparation takes a considerable time but one can easily do it as the dish relishes the taste buds. Makki ki roti is prepared with corn flour. For taste coriander leaves, finely chopped green chili and grated radish/onion is kneaded with the flour. On the other hand, preparation of sarso ka saag takes a lot of time.

Butter Chicken

Punjab is famous for the best chicken dishes. This includes both cooked in tandoor or at the stoves known as curry chickens. Butter chicken is one of the non-vegetarian Punjabi foods that tempt the taste buds of Punjabi cuisine lovers. Though it has high calories yet is highly liked. It is a mouth-watering creamy dish that is best and mostly served with naan or tandoori roti.

Rajma/Kadi Chawal

Rajma chawal and kadi chawal both are delicious delicacies that is served in the vegetarian Punjabi food. These food are perfect to satiate the hunger of people and are doesn’t contain too much calories. The main thing that makes rajma and kadi delicious and mouth-watering is the Punjabi tadka that is applied to the boiled rajmas (kidney beans). It brings an exotic flavour to the dish.

Dal Makhni

Dal makhni is another most delicious food that is cooked at homes and widely demanded at the restaurants. This Punjabi food is served either with naan or tandoori roti or sometimes with plain roti. The dish includes a lot of butter or cream.

Apart from aforementioned, Punjabi lassi, chole bhature and variety of paranthas (stuffed with aaloo, pyaz, gobhi etc.) are also popular choice of not only Punjabis but other people particularly from Northen states. These paranthas are generally served with home-made white butter and yogurt. In addition, Lassi either sweet or salted is served along with most of the Punjabi dishes. Lassi is generally thick and creamy liquid that made from beaten curd and milk. Moong dal halwa, kheer etc. comes under the category of desserts.
