Image Congratulations to your health if you have decided to switch from cardboard roaches to active carbon filters, which will reduce tar and make the drags smoother for your soul and your body. No more of that nasty cough and you must be glad of this positive change in your lifestyle. But what are some of the leading carbon filter tips brands in India and why the hell are they so damn expensive!? We do not know why they are expensive to be honest; perhaps it is the import cost and the ‘activated charcoal’ costs associated with these fancy healthier tips, but they are definitely worth it as once you have come to the side of these filters, your body will not allow you to go back to the nasty roach-life. The below is out honest review of the top five in India (in random order).

This brand (also called just ‘Actis’) is just almost everywhere. It has a plain packaging and the official brand website is a complete mess, but what it lacks in presentation and appearance, it makes up for in its distribution. For more than 10 years now this brand has been selling carbon filters (hard to believe eh?), and specialized in making tips to be used in the thick wooden pipes. Now there is a 6mm also available which is the best size for joints, but that variant seems to be always out of stock somehow.

2. GIZEH:

Believe it or not, this brand does very well in Europe. It is sold in most tobacco shops, although it has a mass and budget image in the West. It does have a premium black colour packing, and the brand logo in red is intriguing with some pyramid stuff made, but when you open the box, the filters are but average and some reports of carbon particles that come in the mouth. The brand is available in packs of 10 which is a plus point for some buyers.

3. SMOKING:

Welcome to the world of ‘Smoking’ accessories, a giant in the market since 1922 (like what the hell!), but a brand that unlike ‘RAW’ has so far found limited success in connecting with its audience. With papers, especially ‘Smoking Reds’ the brand has found some success, but not so much with their carbon filter roach since some people feel they alter the taste of the joint! And the best filters are the ones that have no impact in the taste or the high!

4.PURIZE:

This is a brand that was lucky enough to realize that 6mm is the best diameter for stoners and that there should be a carbon filter for joints rather than just for pipes. Founded in just 2016 in Germany, this has saw good traction in the year 2021 and 2022, and in India till 2023. How good 2024 will be for the brand, we will have to wait and see. The competition that the brand was facing earlier was minimal in the country. There was just Actitube which was somewhat of a‘weakish’ competition as per some. But the dynamics are now changing in the West and in India, with some best alternatives to Purize filters.

5.PEER NEXT:

The brand is by a parent company that was into e cigs, which were then banned by the Indian govt (or ITC as some maybe claim?). Then they came up with PEER tonic water, then soda, and then all of a sudden carbon filters. They are popularizing the carbon joint filter concept in India as an alternative to roaches with their packs of 56 and 15. The branding is neat and the filter tips are imported, and we have personally tried and liked them. They have some 4 colours to add to the variety. How popular this gets in the country is something time will tell, but they are surely lighter on one’s pocket too as compared to the German ones.
