In 2022, the medical device market landscape underwent significant changes due to economic uncertainty, leading to a spurt in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities. However, deal value and volume remained low compared to the previous year as investor confidence was hit by market volatility.

Despite all this lack of enthusiasm, the overall amount spent on buyouts remained healthy - exceeding the levels seen in the last 10 years. J&J played a significant role in this, accounting for 42% of the total M&A spend this year.
