Top 10 Arts And Crafts Supplies For Kids

by Dollar King Blogger

In their early years, young children learn mainly by observing and doing, which includes play and other activities. Art and craft projects are a great way to engage your child and help her learn.

You'll find that some crafts for toddlers require a few items that are needed all the time, so stocking up on these items makes sense. Here are ten must-have kids’ supplies for arts and crafts.

1. Colored and Patterned Paper

The most basic craft material is paper! You can make paper folding or origami crafts even if you don't have anything else! You can also get rolls of bright wrapping paper to match the colorful paper stacks.

2. Cardboard

The easiest cardboard for toddlers to handle would be the thin kind, such as cereal boxes. Little hands can easily fold or cut them and they don't cause too much trouble. Store those Kellogg's boxes now!

3. Foam Sheets

Despite its fumbling abilities, foam is a fun material to cut and play with. It can be colored, patterned, and glittered. For most toddler crafts, you'll need an assorted pack of colored sheets.

4. Googly Eyes

You can paint or draw eyes on your crafts, but they wouldn't be half as much fun as googly eyes! Everything looks better and more realistic with them.

5. Stickers

You can introduce your child to crafts with these. Even tiny stationary stores sell all kinds of stickers, and they are really inexpensive. Be sure to buy supplies for arts and crafts like stars, hearts, flowers, numbers, and letters.

 6. Cotton Wool

There's more to cotton wool than your first aid kit; it's also a must-have craft item! Without snow, smoke, or clouds in the sky, how else are you going to make them? You can buy a small roll from your local chemist - it's cheap and works well for crafts.

7. Crayons

It's obvious, but we included it to make sure we covered everything. It's best to get non-toxic ones and opt for triangular shapes for younger toddlers since their hands will be easier to grip.

8. Paint And Brushes

Messier is better when it comes to kids, right? Obviously, this applies to arts and crafts too, so don't limit them to crayons; give them some non-toxic paints and thick brushes to play with. Who knows, you might create something yourself!

9. Kid Friendly Scissors

You don't want any accidents to happen to your kids, so a pair of child-friendly scissors is a necessity. You can buy supplies for arts and crafts like these from your nearest dollar store. They can cut paper, but they are too blunt to cut skin.

10. Non Toxic Glue

If you didn't have glue, what would you do? Two types are recommended - a stick variety (which is less messy) and a liquid variety in a squeeze tube (which is messier, but better for hard surfaces). Make sure they're non-toxic and wash your hands afterward!
