Too Macho for Skin Care?

by Journey To Wellness health and wellness

Gentlemen, pay attention! There somethings about your skin care  you need to know. Your skin is an organ - it is the biggest one you have. Unlike your liver or your spleen you, obviously, can touch it and see it and you can tell at a glance when it is broken or damaged.

An appeal to logic

Imagine this - it is a bitterly cold day. There's a wind blowing lake-effect snow in your face, which, incidentally is the only part of your entire body which is not protected from the arctic conditions.

Or this - the opposite: You're in Death Valley for the day. You are blown away by the desert landscape. You're wearing shorts and a t-shirt. You have got a baseball cap on to shade your eyes, but the rest of you is exposed to strong sun that has made the rocks hot enough to fry an egg.

Come on! You're a smart guy, right? You're doing nothing to protect your skin. That doesn't seem too smart, now does it?

If logic doesn't work what about vanity?

Here are some good old fashioned facts. The skin is made up of layers - the outside one is in a constant state of being replenished. Skin cells are replaced by new ones all the time. It is a constant process. Getting rid of the dead ones makes you look healthier and younger. You can counteract those greys at your temples, which you have earned by being a captain of the corporate world with healthy, younger-looking skin.

Luxury then?

You probably never thought of this - but it is nice to look after your skin. It feels good - and no, you don't have to come out smelling like some fragrant waft on a delicate breeze. You can let a facial and still exit looking manly yet groomed. Have you noticed the trendy barber's all have hot towels and tweezers hanging around lately?

You still don't buy it?

Well at least do these two things. First is to moisturize. You don't have to have cracked skin on hard hands. You work with your hands, you need them look after them with some skin care.

If you do nothing else use a sunscreen. Dude, climate change is real. There is less ozone and the rays of the sun reach you, even on cold days. Protect yourself from UV rays at the least.
