Today Political News in Hindi: China Says BJP Will win 430 Seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024!

China’s international mouthpiece, Global Times, the country’s leading English language journal has made an intriguing prediction about the results of India’s general elections as per news today reports. It has not just predicted a landslide victory for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] but went on to predict the total number of seats the party is going to win — 430! This is way higher than the most optimistic analysis done by the BJP itself about the total number of seats it will win.

One might be wondering if this is the viewpoint of the Chinese state since the assertion was made by just a media outlet. For those who are not aware, China does not have a free media like in India and other democratic countries and Global Times is a totally state-controlled media outlet.

At different points of time, the communist rulers of China convey their point of view on important overseas matters first through the Global Times as it did in this case.

Global Times is almost always very critical of India and has published highly biased and one-sided views about India if you look at news today live at different points of time in the past.

What can be made out of this Global Times prediction?

It is well known that China is a difficult country to understand especially if one goes by what the Chinese communist state says and does.

They seem to play a game of deception and intrigue even with nations with which they seem to be in a normal relationship. The whole world knows that India and China do not share a normal relationship where both countries treat each other as geopolitical and military rivals.

In this backdrop, it is not expected that one would say anything positive about the other if you look up stories in the news today or from the past.

The Chinese have found it quite difficult to deal with India since May 2014 when the BJP came to power but prior to that they had everything going right for them in India under Congress rule.

Despite that why would China appear so positive about a landslide victory for the BJP in the general elections in India? Like everything else about China, this assessment by the Global Times is also shrouded in intrigue and deception.

China realizes that the BJP is going to return to power

Before May 2014 and to some extent before May 2019, China was hopeful of the BJP not getting a clear majority on its own but now it seems to have resigned to the reality of the party remaining in power for a long time.

Under BJP rule India’s growth has been phenomenal across all spheres, be it industrial and military capacity or an independent foreign policy among others as per news today.

That resulted in India adopting a more hardline military policy towards China’s provocations at the Line of Control [LAC] but it also led India to gradually distance itself from the United States [US] and its policy of military alliances.

This is what China always wanted — India and the US not getting into any kind of political and military alliance. There was a possibility of that happening with a weak and fragile India as was the case during Congress rule.

However, a strong India is confident of tackling China on its own without any outside help. This is not an ideal situation for China but for now it will bear with the discomfort as that allows it to focus more intently on dealing with US aggression. Hence, China is signalling indirectly to PM Modi to go easy on it but it is unlikely that such superficial overtures would make any impact on Mr. Modi. If China wants normal relations with India it will first have to sort out the mess it has created on the Indo-Tibetan border.
