Tobacco Packaging Market Insights, Leading Players, Growth and Forecast to 2030

by Vijay K. Web Marketing
In 2018, the world was home to more than 1.3 billion tobacco users, mostly as a result of peer pressure, says the World Health Organization (WHO). Right from childhood, people are compared with their peers over academic performance, especially in countries like India. The same pressure then steeps into people’s work, social, and college lives, which prompts many to use tobacco, as nicotine, the chief chemical contained in it, hits the limbic system of the brain and stimulates the release of dopamine, a hormone that makes people feel relaxed and pleasurable.

Hence, with the burgeoning consumption of tobacco despite global efforts to curb it, P&S Intelligence expects the tobacco packaging market value to escalate from $19,134.6 million in 2019 at a CAGR of 3.7% during the forecast period (2020–2030). This is because the more the production of such products, the higher will be the usage of different kinds of packaging materials. Moreover, with their increasing disposable income, people not in any stress are also using tobacco, just for a change or while socializing.

Based on packaging type, the tobacco packaging market is bifurcated into secondary and primary, of which the secondary bifurcation held the larger share in 2019. This was because compared to primary packaging, the secondary packaging of such products is usually larger because it is what carries the company and product information. Moreover, the graphics and information on it need to be in an attractive enough way so as to impel people to consume the products.

Currently, the highest amount of tobacco packaging material is sold in Asia-Pacific (APAC), which is the largest user and producer of tobacco products. China and India have the highest number of tobacco users, which is why the production of the associated products is also the highest here. Since the majority of the people in the region are still not rich, tobacco use is high. This is substantiated from the statistics of the WHO, which say, “Over 80% of the world's 1.3 billion tobacco users live in low- and middle-income countries.”

Hence, with the growing demand for tobacco products, the consumption of materials for their packaging will rise too.
