To Ping a Blog Post or Not to Ping a Blog? That Is The Question! Have the Answer?

by Bonnie McDonough Network Marketing Leader
Should I ping a blog post or not?  From the research I completed in Google in preparation for this post, I found that this was not such a simple question to answer.

ping a blogWhen I ping a blog post I am advising the search engines  and blog directories that I have placed new content on my blog so that they will come take a look and make note of the new content. The idea is that a blog post will be seen faster by the crawlers for these sites than by just waiting for the normal process to take place.

Pinging can be done for any type of content posted to the internet such as  an article or blog post, a video or a press release.

Don't ping content repeatedly. This can lead to the search engines labeling the process as ping spamming. That can have a negative effect to the ranking of your site.

Content should be pinged when originally created and thereafter only when a significant change has been made to the content.

Wordpress blogs are set up so that new posts are pinged automatically.  Also, every time a post is updated for even a minor change, like a spelling correction, Wordpress will ping the blog. So  I found some discussion as to whether that option should be turned off by the blogger to avoid pinging too often. Interesting....
